It was a great honour to host YAB Dato' Sri Haji Fadillah Bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, at our booth at #WaterLossAsia yesterday and learn more about our solutions from Uri Gutermann. Malaysia has earmarked over €500 million to invest in the water sector with the aim to reduce #NRW (non-revenue water) over the next few years.

It was an honor to meet with recently-appointed Deputy Minister, Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), Government of Viet Nam, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Long.
ADB has been a long standing partner of Viet Nam in the Energy Sector. We discussed a range of topics related to the sector, its opportunities and challenges - and most crucially - the urgent need to expedite flow of investments into the energy sector under PDP8 and Viet Nam's JETP (V-JETP) to enable Viet Nam to meet its net-zero commitment by 2050.
There is an immediate need for collective action to develop a set of green bankable projects suitable for speedy financial close.
We also discussed how ADB has the entire suite of financing (private and public) and advisory products to provide the necessary support. As Asia's Climate Bank, ADB has already pledged a significant $2.1 billion in support of V-JETP.
Look forward to continued collaboration with Deputy Minister Long and MOIT's leadership in enhancing ADB's support for Viet Nam in the energy sector, and unlocking and augmenting the flow of much-needed long term development capital into the sector.
Damilola Ogunbiyi highlighted the urgent need for accessible clean cooking solutions, stating, "This is a threat to the society we live in and a threat to the African continent. It is not acceptable that in 2024 we are saying that women are dying because they are cooking for their families, not to talk about all the other gender-based violence."
The CEO and UN SRSG for SEforAll also emphasized that initiatives like Mission 300 must prioritize clean cooking alongside electrification, noting, "We can’t do the module we did in the past, where we go and provide electricity and we forget and do not provide clean cooking," as this oversight would result in a costly and inefficient need to retrofit existing solutions.
🔌 🍳 Electrification and clean cooking must go hand-in-hand to create a truly sustainable impact. This highlights the importance of establishing strong standards and ensuring they are complemented by consumer awareness, a robust repair ecosystem, policy reform, capacity building, and the active participation and inclusion of local communities. These elements work together to guarantee that clean cooking solutions are safe, effective, and accessible for all. A holistic approach will enable lasting improvements in health, gender equity, and environmental sustainability, making these components indispensable for the success of energy access and clean cooking initiatives!
What significance does the adoption of Turkmenistan's Energy Savings and Energy Efficiency Law have?
The adoption of this Law in April 2024 will have a positive impact on the environment, contributing to the preservation of natural resources and the reduction of environmental pollution, as well as on the economy, promoting increased resource efficiency and stimulating innovation and sustainable development.
Reduction of Emissions: Energy efficiency laws encourage the use of clean and energy-efficient technologies, which contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and environmental pollution.
Preservation of Natural Resources: Energy-efficient technologies and processes help reduce the consumption of natural resources such as oil, gas, and water, thereby contributing to the preservation of ecosystems and biodiversity.
Cost Reduction: Energy-efficient measures allow for a reduction in energy and resource costs, which enhances the competitiveness of enterprises and reduces costs for consumers.
Stimulation of Innovation: Energy efficiency laws stimulate innovative developments in clean technologies and energy-saving solutions, fostering the development of new industries and the creation of new jobs.
Sustainable Development: Energy-efficient measures contribute to the creation of a sustainable economy, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and increasing the stability of the energy sector.
