Eco-friendly goodies but not for Motel 6 consumers
Just like other categories of products and services, some eco-friendly items are not made for Motel 6 folks but cater to Four Seasons patrons.
The collage shows a few from Waste Not, p. 26, HTSI magazine, FT Weekend, Oct. 19/20, 2024.
They are supposedly made of natural, recycled materials.
1. Item 15, top-left, SUK KEUNKANG wood Jumeoni Ottchil bowl, 1,200 pounds or US$1,560.
2. Item 11, center-left, HAY recycled-plastic Maxim box, 85 pounds or US$110.
3. Item 20, bottom-left, FERNANDO LAPOSSE avocado-leather cabinet, US$35,000 (Yeah. That's 35 grand!).
4. Item 16, top-right, SUNGAI DESIGN recycled-river-plastic OMBAK lounge chair, US$960.
5. Item 12, bottom-right, INTERESTING TIMES GANG, recycled-fishing-net and wood-fiber Kelp chair, 794 pounds or US$1,032.
Skeptics would of course ask how much carbon footprint is left from gathering discarded fishing net, breaking down the plastic, molding it in a factory to make a chair.
Motel 6 folks undoubtedly would display the same disbelief as the orangutan shown, as they either utter aloud or tacitly "You gotta be yanking my chain! I can get a chair that may be more comfortable at Walmart for a fraction of that price!"
These premium eco-friendly items reek of greenwashing designed to milk upmarket consumers who have never set foot in a discount outlet.
