Well for me, yes, I love the cars and the fashion, but they are both topped by the country's people and the food. So, it was a delight to interview Fabrizio Canal, who epitomises the passion that Italians have for their country and the food and wine that it offers. As you know, food is the fastest growing category currently in global travel retail, and Fabrizio's company has a wide range of Italian food and beverage products that encapsulate the essence of the best from Italy - products that should certainly find a 'home' in many more travel retail operations worldwide. Food Accademia's business doubled last year. Reflecting on a Last-Minute London Trip with SWISS Air! ✈️ I recently embarked on a spontaneous journey to London, choosing between Emirates and Swiss International Air Lines. Despite Emirates’ generous 30kg baggage, I opted for SWISS due to better pricing and shorter layovers. The experience was more pleasant than expected—efficient processes and thoughtful personal touches like bottled water, SWISS chocolate and high quality halal meals. While the plastic water bottles might not align with the most sustainable practices, similar to the plastic cups used by other premium airlines like Singapore Airlines (SQ), it made me think about how Uli's Kitchen can improve our service. Our kuihs, like SQ’s offerings, are at a premium, yet we strive to enhance the customer experience thoughtfully. Can we, too, add such personal touches while exploring more sustainable options? #ICYMI | Wine tourism as a global niche tourism attraction continues to grow in popularity. Providing a platform for the industry to collaborate, innovate, and strategise on how best to capture the lion’s share of this bourgeoning sector, the 9th annual Wine Tourism Conference was hosted at Lanzerac Wine Estate last week. Focusing on the business case for wine tourism, the conference reinforced the Western Cape’s position as a top wine tourism destination. Joining the speaker line-up was Wesgro CEO, Wrenelle Stander, who spotlighted the significant economic contributions of the vibrant sector. According to a report published in February this year by South Africa Wine, wine tourism alone contributed a significant R9.3 billion to the country’s GDP by the end of 2022. With the format allowing for talks and workshops, the event provided a space for collaboration and intimate engagement around pertinent themes including: “maximising cellar door sales”, “it’s your team that drives sales”, “understanding and targeting the domestic travel market” and “tourism creates wine sales”. While I was in Luján de Cuyo, a wine region in the heart of Argentina, I seized a wonderful opportunity to visit Cheval des Andes, a winery punctuated by both French and Argentinian love for the terroir. Cheval des Andes is an exciting and fruitful collaboration between Château Cheval Blanc and Terrazas de los Andes. Where, nature, respect and precision is core to the culture of the team onsite. Not opened to tourism yet, the pillars guiding the philosophy have been wonderfully highlighted along my experience as a visitor thanks to Noelia’s warm hospitality and time dedication. In this article, with my Experience Designer point of view, I imagined the challenges of tourism diversification for an exclusive experience as Cheval des Andes is. Highlighting that: Tourism diversification without strategical planning and time dedicated to  understand how to translate the brand’s pillars into a seamless and homogenous experience could quickly turn into an unwanted mass tourism product. Throwback to last week. Our US travels began in LA, where, with the great assistance of my dear friend Alan of Secret Dalmatia and his sales representative TL Portfolio and the amazing Natalia we hosted 30 travel agents at the iconic Dan Tana's restaurant on Santa Monica Boulevard. Dan Tana's, celebrating 60 years of operation this year, is a favorite dining spot for Hollywood A-list celebrities. We missed seeing Al Pacino by one night! It was a close call 😎. The restaurant is owned by the same family that owns Lošinj Hotels & Villas, which made our presentation and storytelling even more personal and authentic. The setting was perfect, the evening ideal for being outside, and we gave full presentations on Croatia, particularly on Lošinj and our hotels. People loved the food, but even more, what they learned about our properties. It was a resounding success. Positioning Lošinj and the wider destination of Northern Adriatic, along with our properties, is a slow and deliberate process. I don't believe in the fireworks effect, which is spectacular but short-lived. Instead, I believe in pursuing a sustained, well-thought-out approach with compelling storytelling, honest and believable people, brand ambassadors who build trust, and plenty of educational moments. This approach requires time, patience, confidence, and, moreover, belief in the purpose. This approach is not easy, especially in a time when people believe in quick fixes and fast solutions for everything.
