After securing her second term, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has extended invitations to EU heads of states and government to propose candidates for EU Commissioner positions. Currently, 14 out of the 27 countries have officially selected candidates, including 5 outgoing EU officials. The remaining nominations are expected by August 30th. The anticipated timeline for assembling the next College of Commissioners is as follows: - September 2nd: Presentation of the Commission’s organisational structure and mission letters. The European Parliament’s JURI Committee will assess potential conflicts of interest. - September 20th: The European Parliament sends questionnaires to appointed Commissioners, with a response deadline of September 29th. - September 30th – October 4th: Parliamentary hearings for each appointed Commissioner. - October 21st: European Parliament votes to confirm the Commissioners. - November 1st: Swearing-in ceremony for the new College of Commissioners.
