how to launch an arch at 6% slope. Thanks to the site team effort.
Both our Twin Arch Bridges are open to traffic 😍 Each bridge spans over 100 metres across the Alexandra Canal and were moved around 12-metres-per-day to precisely be put into place. Outstanding engineering team! 👷♂️👷♀️

I learned something about myself after I left my engineering career. Something that explained a lot of why engineering was not a good fit for me. I hate details. Details are kind of an important thing for an engineer, no? 😄 I honestly never put my finger on the whole detail thing until after I was away from the job. About a year after leaving engineering, my husband and I were planning several home improvement projects. When faced with decisions around project details, I basically did a Scarlett O’Hara fiddle-dee-dee wave of the hand. I really only cared about the general scope and the overall outcome. Leave the details to someone else. 💡 Ahh!! When I thought about it, I realized I’ve never enjoyed dealing with details. In anything really – personally or professionally. And that explained SO much for me around my unhappiness in my engineering career. Getting into the nitty-gritty is just part of being an engineer or project manager. It’s no wonder engineering stressed me out so much! I like ideas. I like big picture. Give me details, and I zone out. Elements of engineering were just so counter to who I truly am! I realized then that any work that doesn’t align with the core of who I am would always be stressful. Because I’d always subconsciously fight against those things that go against my true nature. And that’s just stress bubbling under the surface! Shakespeare had it right – “To thine own self be true.” 💖 #stressmanagement #mentalfitness #selfsabotage #coachforwomen #womeninconstruction #womenengineers #womenarchitects

Well it was another fun Engineers Week Competition! Thanks to all who entered, great job!! Results from the Structural Team: 8 or Younger: Samuel! 9-13: Ethan! 14-18: Charissa! From the bridge judging committee: For the 8 or under group we had a split vote, but Samuel takes the prize. We like his unique design that had us thinking - "How does that work?" A combination of an arch shape and mechanical scissor action gives strength, while making this bridge visually interesting and creative. Every bridge in this age group had merit and it was really hard to judge. The 9 to 13 age group has some very interesting entries, but Ethan takes the cake. The eventual winner was almost skipped over in our first look, but the elegant simplicity in his design shines through. While this bridge may not apparently hold the "most weight" in the pictured application, the thrust block design is well suited to a rigid and rocky abutment siting that we have here so often in Colorado. Good job, Ethan. The 14 and older age group is bested by Charissa's bridge. The classic look and function of this Warren truss is efficient and strong. Attention to detail, especially at the joints where members come together is critical, and reveals the care and thought that went into this design. Members that take the most load at the top and bottom chord were built to be the strongest as the bridge shows of its good form and function. #3RocksStyle #EngineersWeek #BrightFutureAhead #StructuralEngineering

Engineers can NEVER under deliver! In the world of real estate, Engineers are our backbones! They are the ones who set up the foundation (literally and metaphorically) for every structure. Whether it's a beautiful building we see or a well constructed house, they are designing the base for us. I'm an Engineer so I understand how much an inevitable role it is in real estate. I always want each team member to get the recognition they deserve. And so this post is an appreciation for the people who build a base so strong that the rest of the process depends on them. It’s about how well they start for us to take it ahead further with the most quality.

As part of our new mission, vision, and values rebrand, we asked our team members to choose one of our values—B.E.A.T.S—and describe what it means to them in their experience of working at Kirkegaard. Next up in our B.E.A.T.S. series is Theo Pratto! Theo chose to speak on the value Teamwork. "At Kirkegaard, my title of Collaborating Specialist gives some clue as to how critical collaboration is to our workplace, at all levels. None of what we do can be designed or built alone. We practice teamwork within offices and across locations, between our acoustics and integrated systems disciplines, between Kirkegaard and Kirkegaard South, as well as with larger project teams of architects, engineers, contractors, owners, and users. Design “coordination” is really an exercise in teamwork: fully engaging with the shared goals for the project, communicating the needs of each discipline, and taking the time to develop creative solutions to problems - together. Outside of work, I appreciate that we develop our collegial relationships (foundational to successful teamwork) by organically spending time with one another and supporting each other’s passions."
