In the December issue of International Gas Union magazine, Hydrogen Council CEO, Ivana Jemelkova, shared insights about the global state of hydrogen deployment and outlined the trajectory the industry needs to follow to realize a net-zero scenario by 2030.
🏃♂️ "At a recent government meeting in Brussels, an official likened deploying clean energy – and specifically hydrogen – to running a marathon. [...] After a strong start, we are now a few kilometers into a high-stakes global event and realizing there are no shortcuts and running the entire 26.2 miles to scale up the solutions we need will require focus and endurance. The question is: can we finish the race?" In the December issue of International Gas Union magazine, Hydrogen Council CEO, Ivana Jemelkova, shared insights about the global state of #hydrogen deployment and outlined the trajectory the industry needs to follow to realize a net-zero scenario by 2030. 🏁 To find out how we can get to the finish line, read the full article below 👇 Thank you Rebecca Maserumule, Ph.D. for the inspiration. 💡 https://lnkd.in/dEEdZre8

Blending hydrogen into existing natural gas networks is an important lever for building the market for net zero hydrogen. This technical paper shows what the challenges are and how they can be overcome based on Penspen's experience with gas network operators. #hydrogenblending #energytransition
Can hydrogen blending revolutionise existing gas networks? 🌍 The idea of blending hydrogen into existing transmission pipelines offers a promising avenue for reducing CO2 emissions while leveraging current infrastructure. But what are the implications when scaling from smaller public networks to high-pressure, large-diameter transmission lines? Download our new technical paper, authored by Nigel Curson, EVP of Technical Excellence at Penspen, for insights into the feasibility and challenges of blending hydrogen into existing gas networks. Uncover the strategies for market access, CO2 emissions reduction, and practical considerations for implementation: https://ow.ly/GbEu50RtwtG #TechnicalExcellence #Hydrogen #EnergyFuture

Is it safe to blend hydrogen (or other fuel types) into infrastructure meant for methane gas? The truth is, we don't really know! Pipeline Safety Trust is encouraged by PHMSA's proposed information collection on hydrogen blending in gas systems because it will increase transparency; consider reading our guide to commenting if you are submitting your own comment!
NEW: PST Guide to Public Comment: PHMSA's Proposed Information Collection on Hydrogen Blending in Gas Systems Currently, there is little known about the number of hydrogen blending projects taking place across the country or the levels of hydrogen blending which is occurring. PST has prepared a guide on commenting on this public docket and suggestions on strengthening this information collection. Hydrogen has qualities different from methane gas that pose unique challenges and safety risks. Collecting this information from operators will help inform future research and decision-making, improve transparency, and inform future rulemaking around this practice. https://lnkd.in/gtNi58Fw #hydrogen, #H2, #pipelines, #hydrogeneconomy, #energy, #climate, #environment,

We’re at the cusp of one of the biggest transformations in history – the shift to a hydrogen economy. Hydrogen is poised to drive everything from power generation to air transport, shipping, mobility, and infrastructure. Two things are essential to making this vast new hydrogen energy network function – safety, and interoperability; and CGA’s Safe Hydrogen Project sits at the intersection of those two imperatives. This is an interesting paper that I've just come across. It was published in January this year and it aimed to analyse how different scenarios of hydrogen production and electrification impact infrastructure development, generation mix, CO2 emissions, and system costs in Europe, considering the retrofitting of natural gas infrastructure. A key finding from the report was. "Without the option to transport H2 through either retrofitting or new pipelines, there is a significant increase in costs and CO2 emissions. Finding a balance between transporting H2 and electricity is crucial to create an optimal system. The expansion of electricity transmission by 2050 is already near the optimal solution, so the focus should be on facilitating H2 transport, including retrofitting." https://lnkd.in/eDSFvzwB #hydrogen

9moI agree. If people do not have a property suitable for a heat pump or simply cannot afford the total project cost, what is the alternative? Hydrogen is a no brainer. We need to heat our homes. Few will argue that it is unsafe if there is no alternative. Unless of course methane + 20% hydrogen becomes a long term element of the net zero energy mix. We must not forget that net zero is not absolute zero carbon.
