TL, DR: Boeing and other leading aerospace companies are working together to make 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) a reality – read more about how below.
The International Aerospace Environmental Group (IAEG) is an organization that enables aerospace companies to collaborate on initiatives that address our industry’s impact on the environment. Last month, my team at #Boeing Product Development took the lead in forming IAEG Work Group 13 to assess what it will take to enable our products to operate with 100% SAF. Along with our deputy leads from Airbus, the group also includes engineering leaders from GE Aerospace, RTX’s Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, Safran, and other aerospace and defense OEMs.
Using #SAF instead of fossil fuels can dramatically reduce aviation’s impact on global carbon emissions. Work Group 13 will coordinate an industry-wide approach to assessing our materials, fuels and propulsion systems, and airframes for compatibility with these synthetic fuels.
This type of industry-wide effort really is unprecedented! It represents a paradigm shift towards collaboration, rather than independent efforts, on the issues that impact us all. Our work group will unify an approach and voice on 100% SAF compatibility testing, and accelerate our ability to reduce aviation’s impact on global carbon emissions.
Read more about the IAEG Work Group from the SAE International press release below, and stay tuned for more updates throughout the year as our industry continues to address the sustainability of our products – together.
