It takes many hands to build a Habitat for Humanity home! This year more than 500 local employees from 37 companies came together to build affordable homes in Southern Alberta, raising $221,000 and giving more than 4000 hours of their time. This is community in action. Together we are helping families across Southern Alberta build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership. My article from the DJC's Waterfront Special Section: Reclaiming Puget Sound: How communities are reimagining their waterfronts - Local communities are revitalizing waterfronts to support industry, recreation and resilience in a changing environment. The movement by Puget Sound communities to reclaim their waterfronts is gaining momentum. From the mega-project on the Seattle waterfront to communities around the Sound with long, historic connections to the water, bold visions are emerging to reconnect with the iconic shorelines of the Pacific Northwest. At EHDD, we have been designing waterfront projects up and down the West Coast for the past 50 years. In the Puget Sound region, three key factors are driving community investment in, and commitment to, reimagining our waterfronts. As our economy continues to grow and diversify, the maritime industry remains a vital backbone, providing jobs and training. Second, as our population expands, communities are increasingly seeking recreational opportunities close to home. Investing in cultural and recreational spaces enhances our communities and provides everyday opportunities to connect with the natural environment. Finally, as we’ve seen in recent years, climate change-induced challenges such as extreme weather and rising sea levels are realities we must confront; Our shorelines and waterfronts are at the front lines of resilience.

The City of St. Albert, AB, is taking a significant step towards a more sustainable future with its new Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program, supported by GMF’s Community Efficiency Financing (CEF) initiative. This innovative financing model empowers homeowners to make energy-efficient upgrades to their homes with no upfront costs. Administered by Alberta Municipalities | Strength in Members, the program focuses on single-detached homes, which comprise 73% of the city's private dwellings. Homeowners can finance a wide range of upgrades, from HVAC systems and solar panels to insulation and water conservation measures. Designed with equity in mind, the program aims to address energy poverty and ensure accessibility for all residents, regardless of their energy literacy levels. Incentives are also available to encourage participation and deeper energy retrofits. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gM7UeUMu

Governor Janet T. Mills signed an Executive Order today in Stonington establishing an Infrastructure Rebuilding and Resilience Commission to work with communities, industries, and organizations to identify, respond, and connect to them resources needed for long-term resilience planning. The commission was formed in response to last winter's series of disaster-level storms, which caused an estimated $90 million in damage to public infrastructure across Maine. 📉Today’s 5️⃣0️⃣ point interest rate cut was a win for families who are just getting by. It allows families to free up cash for their most basic needs: food and shelter. 👷🏻♂️We understand that it’s difficult for families to save $150,000+ for a downpayment. Therefore our mission is to build more homes for them to rent. 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣4️⃣Was a great year for Sustainable Development Group as we have 40 rental units being built in the next 12 months. 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5️⃣Will be a bigger year as we embark to acquire 9 more projects to add at least 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ more homes to the market.

Community Land Scotland is recruiting a Manager to set up and manage their Natural Capital Partnerships project. The Natural Capital Partnerships team is part of a new project created to work across Scotland’s community, private and public sectors, supporting the transition to net zero. As investment increases in nature-based solutions to address the climate and biodiversity crises, it is important that the opportunity to engage communities appropriately is embraced, to secure greater community benefits from natural capital developments, support community wealth building objectives and reduce the risk of communities being marginalised. https://lnkd.in/eNnv58_M £42,000 Glasgow, Highlands or South of Scotland #hybrid #manager #charityjob #netzero

Interesting things afoot in #Ayrshire, #Scotland. Popping its head over the hill is #Kilbirnie's brand new community turbine. It's capable of powering 2234 homes a year. Because it's locally owned, the money it generates won't go to some energy company, but towards community initiatives such as sports facilities and local jobs. It's the first project of its kind in the country (operating independently without subsidies). Quite something! Trails and greenways transform communities, connecting people to each other and the places they care about. From national guidance to local planning, here are three ways we’ve delivered transformative trails projects: • In Raleigh, we partnered with the City to update the Capital Area Greenway Master Plan, offering recommendations to transform over 250 miles of existing and proposed trails into a seamless, connected network. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dQeqJjiM • For the FHWA, we developed the Trails as Resilient Infrastructure Guidebook, a national resource providing strategies to plan, design, and manage trails that enhance climate resilience and emergency preparedness. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ggvKerVM • And in Detroit, our work on the Joe Louis Greenway Framework Plan reflects deep community engagement, shaping a 27.5-mile greenway that prioritizes equity and accessibility for all residents. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/giUe25Dp Explore more of our trails and greenways projects: https://lnkd.in/gUzTMwQY
