The following blog post by the rewilding organisation Sylvester dives into the history of the currently perceived separation between nature and culture and explains why it's important to deconstruct it. On a personal level, deconstructing this dualism is a deeply emotional process that reclaims our sense of belonging. On a collective level, deconstructing dualism looks at our colonial history and is a liberating process of collective freedom. Together, we call this process #regeneration 🌱🙌. Some insights into the topic from the article: "The nature/culture dualism has deep roots in Western philosophy as humanity sought to understand itself and the world." "In productive colonial terms and under the idea of private property, the dualism led to nature being synonymous to land as a commodity." "To move away from the nature/culture dualism, it is crucial to first recognize its eurocentric and colonial roots, as well as acknowledge indigenous peoples’ agencies and rights to land." "By expanding the notion of agency and creativity, we can start recognizing the interwoven stories of a particular place as well as the right of all communities, human and more-than-human, to thrive." I just finished reading the City of Charlotte 2040 Comprehensive policy plan and I must say it is a pretty good and well informed city development framework. I am curious to see how well it will or is being executed and how true it remains to its core values and principle. https://lnkd.in/etsSgAC4
