Reflecting on yesterday's election, I’ve been thinking about how similar the job search can feel to running a campaign. Much like candidates, job seekers have to work hard to present their strengths, communicate their values, and, often, overcome barriers to make a meaningful impression. It’s a process of resilience, strategy, and, at times, sheer tenacity. In this journey, we can draw inspiration from election outcomes: no matter the result, there's always another step, another plan, and another way forward. Sometimes, the key is to refocus, strategize, and stay true to our purpose, even when the path isn’t straightforward. For everyone navigating both job searches and the shifts we’re seeing around us, remember—persistence pays off. Stay prepared, stay positive, and keep pressing toward your goals. We’re all casting a vote of confidence in ourselves with each application and interview. #JobSearch #CareerGrowth #StayPersistent #ElectionReflections #Resilience #CareerJourney

HOW NOT TO ANSWER QUESTIONS IN A FORMAL INTERVIEW & FAIL TO DRAW CONCLUSIONS FROM ONE INTERVIEW TO ANOTHER: THE KAMALA HARRIS MASTERCLASS! 🗣️🎙️🎤😔 Core communication skills have always been important in American politics and US presidential elections, of course. But they may never have been as important as in the current, 2024 election. Would you say it’s (a) sad or (b) fortunate that Kamala Harris is so undeniably terrible at #interviews, despite so much preparation preceding each and every one (of those (extremely few she does agree to), despite her unrestricted access to unmatched resources, fantastic PR support teams and great #publicspeaking talents to advise her - all of which increasingly feel like a faulty assumption. So what's the main reason why she's making so little #progress in that department? I think I know the answer to this question. What would YOU say it is? Much can be said about this short #interview. Notice the way Brian Taff emphasizes the word SPECIFIC when asking his first (aka first impression!) question. Also, remember her first sentence from the Trump-Harris presidential debate when she was asked the following? QUESTION: When it comes to the economy, do you think Americans are better off than they were 4 years ago? ANSWER: So, I was raised as a middle-class kid, and I am actually the only person on this stage who has a plan that is about lifting up the middle class and working people of America. I believe in the ambition, the aspirations, the dreams of the American people. And that is why I imagine and have actually a plan, actually, to build what I call an opportunity economy. When the interviewer asks about the reason for the gap in employment, they are likely considering two main questions: First, what was the reason for your employment gap? Were you terminated, did you lack the necessary skills, were you unclear about your career direction, or did you struggle to find work for an extended period, resulting in involuntary unemployment? (Assessing competency) Second, after a prolonged period of not working, can you still adapt to the workplace? Are you able to keep pace with others, accept the constraints of a job, and handle challenges without easily resigning? (Assessing stability) So you can approach it in the following way! 😊✨"

Team… Excellent article today about positions being advertised which may in fact be for internal candidates. Compliments of our own Kelly Pritt....Thanks Kelly! The author’s recommendation is to speak with a current employee in your network and set up an informational interview (just 10 minutes!), and let them know you’re interested in learning more about the role and the company. A lot of times they’ll be willing to speak on your behalf and help figure out if the role is open to the public. This is great advice, but what if you don’t have someone in your network who is a current employee? Why not join your next winning team who has the network for you to plug into! We have hundreds of alumni across a broad range of industries and companies. Sound like that’s the missing piece of your military retirement or transition puzzle? Reach out today to register for a 2025 cohort! They’re filling up FAST!

🌟 Navigating Career Gaps: Responding to Interview Questions 🌟 TGIF. Addressing a long career gap during an interview can be daunting, but it's crucial to approach it with confidence and transparency. Here's a helpful example response: #Wecruit #Recruitment #Singapore

Last week, a few people commented that my LI posts are all doom and gloom. (I guess they don’t see all the career sites and resume tips I share 🙄) One person called me “Chicken Little”: the sky is falling the sky is falling. So, I took the most recent JOLT report (job openings published monthly by the Bureau of Labor and Statistics) and added some pink unicorns and rainbows. I hope that makes folks feel better about the insanely competitive job market… #ResumeIsKing #KeepPressingForward #AlwaysBeNetworking #UpdateYourLinkedInProfile #Engage #Pivot PS Please block me if my pragmatic style hurts your feelings.

I want to extend my sincerest apologies to everyone who has applied for a job with us and never received a response. You deserve better. Starting next week, we’re changing our approach. Whenever we close a position, we’ll send an email to every applicant to provide insights on the outcome. These emails will include: - The total number of applicants - The number of candidates we interviewed - What made certain resumes stand out - Key statistics we gathered during the process If you applied for a role with us on or after March 1st, expect an email within the next two weeks. If you don’t receive an email by mid-June and were expecting one, please reach out to Forward directly through our company page. Employers, ourselves included, must do better. --- Edit: Thank you to everyone who’s amplifying this message. Your support means a lot. To all the job seekers who feel overlooked by employers: I’m deeply sorry. We see you, and you deserve respect and transparency. To those in hiring positions: I understand it can be overwhelming, but let’s strive to create a better experience for our applicants. What’s beneficial for candidates ultimately benefits us all. Here’s to making things better.

𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗛𝗥 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, 🌱 The hardest part of unemployment isn’t just the wait—it’s the silence. Every ignored message, every unacknowledged resume, is more than an oversight; it’s a missed opportunity for connection and compassion. 💔 As a job seeker, I know firsthand the strength it takes to persist, to keep believing in yourself when responses are few. It’s an exhausting journey, and acknowledgment, even a brief response, can mean everything. Imagine the impact of a simple “We’re still reviewing candidates” or “Thank you for applying”—small actions, huge difference. 💬✨ Is there a way we can make these gestures standard practice, not rare exceptions? Because behind every application is someone’s ambition, dedication, and hope for a brighter tomorrow. 🌍 #keeppushing #Hawkveil 🤝💼

Job seekers, Do you believe your lack of job search success is due to your age? You are not alone. Two out of three workers between ages 45 and 74 say they have seen or experienced age discrimination at work. Even job seekers as young as 35 cite age discrimination as a top obstacle to getting hired! (source AARP). Is there anything you can do about it? Do you honestly think we would post this if there wasn't? 😁 Seriously, we have the "Ageism Master" at the Hudson Job Search meeting on Monday, December 16th. Our featured speaker is #KatherineBurik the Founder of The Interview Doctor, a sought-after public speaker and the best-selling author of three books related to job search. She will address the question "Is there anything that can be done about Ageism?" and more. But you need to attend Monday's meeting to find out how to EFFECTIVELY address this issue. Register in advance for the meeting by clicking on the link below. Also don't forget to wear your ugly Christmas sweater that evening. A prize will be awarded to the winner! So come and learn how to improve your search, have a little holiday fun and maybe end up a winner in more ways than one! https://lnkd.in/dW7QSGCx #jobseekers, #interviews, #ageism,
