Our 2023 Social Report is now available, outlining the progress we’ve made in strengthening our human rights due diligence processes and practices. Last year, we conducted risk assessments across all sourcing countries and Tier 1 factories, with most countries identified as high-risk. Audits in Vietnam and China uncovered issues related to complaints procedures and working conditions, which were addressed through training, improvements to grievance processes, and health and safety resolutions. We also established a sourcing office in Asia, conducted 17 factory visits, and expanded living wage data collection to 17 factories, with eight meeting living wage benchmarks. Looking ahead, we’re focusing on further strengthening our human rights due diligence approach by enhancing governance, transparency, and collaboration with our partners. We started May by facilitating a roundtable discussion with stakeholders from various sectors. We learned and talked about the future of implementing a living wage in the Philippines. Here are 𝟯 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 I took away from the session: 𝟭. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀. The task is daunting and frustrating. But when the right people come together, we can push forward bit by bit. 𝟮. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. Yes, conversations can be messy. But the willingness to sort through that mess is what makes people connect with each other. I hope more and more people and organizations seek to experience the magic one gets from diverse perspectives. 𝟯. 𝗔𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 and work is a big aspect that decides the quality of our lives. Maybe somewhere along the way to progress, different groups had different interests and different ways of going after our desired quality of life. But fundamentally, we all have the same dream of wanting a better life. We need to remind each other of our shared needs, our shared goals, and our shared dreams for the future. This was a really special way to start the month thinking of labor and our role as consultants in creating more equitable, fulfilling, and meaningful work for all.

Part of the speech in the event "Public discussion “How to promote respect of human rights and labour rights in business operation under the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (NAP on BHR) in Tak Special Economic Zone " . Read more in full at (English version) https://bit.ly/4cfiXqt . Chalermwat Triratwattana, Vice President of Tak Chamber of Commerce said that there are both private businesses which are subject to proper and official inspection and those who are not even a member of the Federation of Thai Industries. They are engaged in various forms of practice. We have to first understand that labour is the resources that help to manufacture products for sale to customers. The workers themselves are a valuable resource. Overall in Thailand’s economy, businesspeople have more resources, are they having more resources than jobs? Right now, we have more people than the available jobs. We need to start from wrapping our head around this issue. Both sectors need to discuss human rights. And there are workers who can still not land any jobs. Both the workers and private sector may fail to comply with the laws. Asking if there is any supervision of the private sector? Of course, yes. The state is engaged with us in consultation all the time. There is even supervision from the private sector and associations. In my opinion, there are still inconsistencies in our understanding. If the workers approach the businesses as to what extent they can accept, we can tell them what we can do. It is important to first get into an agreement. Most importantly, we need to first explore that the workers want. We cannot leave it and discuss this later. If what has been agreed has not been followed, then we can discuss. This makes it easier to manage. Without first discussing with each other, the solutions will be hard to come by later. Therefore, it is critical to talk to each other since the beginning as to what extent each party can accept and there should be a neutral organization to help mediate.
