In September, we partnered with Thread Strategies to host a screening of #Uncharitable. Though the stories in this film highlighted how large national nonprofits can overcome some of today's most pressing challenges, Spur Local connects these accomplishments with our knowledge of what grassroots organizations have done on the local level, and what they can continue to do with our support. Local nonprofits clean our watersheds, provide culturally relevant and nutritious food to our neighbors, advocate for more affordable housing, create opportunities for artists, cultivate a love for life-long learning in our students, and so much more. We believe that a thriving and equitable DC region is possible, and that nonprofits on-the-ground can spark big change collectively. 📹: Uncharitable Movie

Our Friends at Win With Integrity Inc. are a non-profit organization that empowers the youth through Sports and education. Imagine presenting giving as a menu of options... Can your supporters contribute to specific age groups? Can they fund particular programs that resonate with them? Can they give in a way that makes them feel like active participants in the process? What if you offered them the chance to see their impact firsthand by inviting them to witness the results personally? Simply having a donate button on your website isn't enough; anyone can do that, and most organizations have. The real question is: What are you doing to revolutionize giving within your nonprofit?  What menu of options are you providing to engage and inspire your supporters?

“Why should I donate?” Because donating to grassroots organizations like Yellowhammer Fund means resources goes back into the communities. It gives parents in need access to family support resources. It gives people the ability to minimize their risk of STIs and unintended pregnancy by having access to contraceptives. It builds community infrastructure and relationships by taking the time to get to know the people they serve as we travel to places often neglected by their government and mainstream organizations. Your donation funds an organization that doesn’t just talk about the harms of economic insecurity within our communities but also ensures that it’s pay model practices what it preaches. Fund locally.
