This article was SO much fun to write! Spoiler Alert: I write in multi-colored font, cause "Pleasantville!" I want to see individuals and organizations thrive in what Gabriella Rosen Kellerman, MD refers to as "the new whitewater world of work." The truth is..we cannot go back to our pre-covid ways of doing business, many of which were outdated long before covid. We need to embrace that there has been more technological change in the last 5 years than there was in the previous 30, and that means we need to redesign work for our new reality. Read my thoughts on why traditional RTO mandates don't work well and have workers feeling un-well: https://lnkd.in/gBy3EW8v I'm here to help rebuild organizations for future success. Corporate America is starting to feel a bit like watching "Pleasantville." When researching my latest article detailing current opinions on distributed work, my "inner integrator," (shoutout to Gabriella Rosen Kellerman, MD and Dr. Martin Seligman for this language) connected the more traditional post-Covid RTO mandates to the middle of the movie, "Pleasantville" where the townspeople, afraid of new ways, wish to revert to what they have always known. I share the importance of having a growth mindset when redesigning work to fit the diverse needs of our rapidly evolving culture here: https://lnkd.in/eGwAW8MH Shoutouts in the piece to Annie Dean, Nick Bloom, Brian Elliott, Dr. Gleb Tsipursky, and Erin Grau for always inspiring and informing my work in the distributed/flexible work space! 💭 Future of Work - RTO v. Hybrid v. Fully Remote 🏠 There are many complexities to the return to office/hybrid/fully remote discussion. Since COVID there has been a marked shift towards hybrid work models. This trend is supported by data showing that hybrid work can lead to increased productivity, better work-life balance, and improved mental health. 🏢 However, some business leaders and studies argue that remote work can lead to decreased visibility for employees, challenges in maintaining company culture, and potential inequities between remote and in-office staff. This article by the brilliant Kacy Fleming, M.A. is a must read for...well really for anyone because ultimately it impacts us all. And she provides a lot of great resources to continue learning. https://lnkd.in/g9pxKkJ9 Personal to me as a woman and as Kacy points out, for women, hybrid or remote work is about a lot more than flexibility. When women work remotely, they face fewer microaggressions and have higher levels of psychological safety. (We'll save addressing microaggressions for a different post) To be clear - while the future of work appears to be leaning towards more flexibility, companies need to be deliberate in their planning. This shouldn't be something done all willy nilly (to use a colloquial phrase). The complexities of implementing remote and hybrid work models need to balance the benefits of flexibility with the need to maintain cohesive, productive, and secure work environments. But, "If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” - Henry Ford #alllanesaremylane #futureofwork #hypewomen #remotework #hybridwork #returntooffice #RTO

Relationships outside of your own team are vital to the overall success of any contract. Sarah and I try to catch up monthly to discuss how our teams are working together and any improvements we can make. It makes us both feel seen and heard, as well as making difficult conversations a thing of the past! This month Rachel joined us to expand on a few matters, and at the end of our call we brought some joy to each others lives and shared our office buddies. #relationshipsmatter #itsgoodtotalk #continuousimprovement #relationshipbuilding #removingbarrierstosuccess #enablingbetterlives

In a world of virtual working, we don't actually see each other as much as we'd like! So at our last in-person catch-up, we took the opportunity of having the three of us in person, in the same place at the same time to take a commemorative selfie... Dean, Meg and Izzy in the flesh - you're welcome :) #team #culture #humansystemsco #tealworking #bravenewwork #selfmanagingorganisations #workplaceculture #mentallyhealthyworkplaces #managementconsultant #consultancy #businessconsultant
