What is happening in Queensland? While NSW and Vic have been reasonably static, Queensland is an outlier with a large increase in Emergency Department presentations of about 28% during the 5 years to 2021. However there is a recent 10% reduction in ED presentations from 2022 to 2023. Changes in ED presentations are often attributed to how primary care is performing. Does this apply to the QLD numbers? https://lnkd.in/gHbzKMf3 Michael Clements; Dr Nicole Higgins MBBS FRACGP GAICD; Maria Boulton; Marita Cowie AM; Francois Pretorius; Andrew Cohen; Ged Foley; John Hall; Tracey Johnson; Bruce Willett; Edwin Kruys; Shannon Fentiman

I am intrigued. We have a higher number of GPs per head of population than many states but they are very concentrated in metro and large regional centres. Our population growth has also been faster than many states which has put our hospital system under increased pressure. Whether statements by our Premiers and Chief Medical Officer about not using ED have been heeded could be a factor. They have been very vocal about staying away from ED. Worthy of investigation. I will flag as part of my committee work with the Commonwealth....

The addition of Private EDs in Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Ipswich, Buderim (all in the past 7 years) have taken a large burden off the public system in regards to ED presentations.....

Possibly people still catching up on preventable illness missed during COVID. Seeing quite a few established skin cancers. We’ve increased our GP capacity locally by double and still have a 2 week wait list (bulk billing executive) at a co-located health department controlled primary care centre. There’s been a significant uptick in respiratory infections other than (and including COVID). Might explain. MMM7.

Everyone from NSW and VIC moved up to QLD and brought their injurious ways with them!

I thought Covid would have caused a more pronounced spike for all.

I’m curious what system attributes causes higher frequency presentations in Qld and NSW vs Vic?
