Awareness" shouldn't be part of this, because that's the tool for educating users against doing things like this, unless this is a case of "Insider Threat" where a "cyber aware" user willfully attempts to exploits the IT infrastructure. This is a misleading meme. If your system is not using the utility and/or if your system is upgraded regularly, this won't affect your system. Furthermore, it happened because of a trust breach by a maintainer, not because the linux architecture is bad/unstable or anything of that sort. Out of context memes will make a passerby think "oh, well. Looks like linux is bad for security, let me go back to my Winows machine now" - further increasing the wedge for standard FOSS software and common accountability.

The saying goes that it only takes one person to create a problem. This highlights the importance of providing better training to every employee in your organization, not just the IT department. If your employees don't know how to identify and respond to phishing attacks in the format of an email link or attachment, smishing, vishing, etc, your organization is at risk. Recent breaches from one user's mistake have shown the severity of this issue. Regularly testing your employees to see if they are falling for phishing attacks and providing education in a more easily understood format is also crucial. Remember, one weak link can bring down the entire organization. Educating and training your employees will protect your organization from falling prey to cyber-attacks.
