Great research about the economic integration in irregular cross-border trade (ICBT) that occurs between Malaysia-Indonesia, in particular the case of Sabah. This study discovers how the political border influences the negative perception of ICBT, although these ICBTs are still highly demanded not only among border community but also beyond that such as the consumer, as well as the trader themselves. Read, and share the knowledge! 😀

On 3 December 2024, our lawyers Agnes B. and Qandyas Wahyu Sabila, participated in the Regional ICC Asia-Pacific Trade Forum at AYANA MidPlaza Jakarta. The “Ring-Fencing Terms in the Letter of Credit: Managing Sanction Clauses from a Legal Perspective and ICC Opinion” event addressed the critical role of sanction clauses in letters of credit (LC) in international trade. The event offered insightful discussions from both legal and practical perspectives, delving into topics such as geopolitical risks, sanctions, and regulatory considerations in international trade. Through case studies and dialogue, experts addressed critical challenges in cross-border transactions. As legal professionals dedicated to fostering a secure and resilient international trade system, we are committed to supporting the development of robust legal frameworks and upholding the principles that govern global commerce. We extend our gratitude to ICC Indonesia for hosting this outstanding forum. If you want a good #economics101 on #exchangerates and the #ringgit then here it is from Birruntha Subramaniam and Faiqah Nasuha Kamaruddin at The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad In the short-term exchange rates are driven by market news and speculation mostly outside the scope of Malaysian policymakers, in the mid-term #monetarypolicy intervention can be helpful but in the long-term #economic_fundamentals play a role. There are many factors to explain this but the core is interventionist and protectionist government policy by previous administrations for many decades. For domestic companies, this restricts their opportunities here so they go overseas. For foreign companies they cannot gain market entry easily so they look for better opportunities elsewhere. The details do not matter so much once this basic reality is understood.
