Even though I present daily for my day job, there's something about tomorrow's talk that feels different. There's been zero nervousness while I've been adding some final polish--just pure excitement. I was asking myself why this is the case while I took my (still) cute-as-heck pup on our walk. Is it the venue (I've never been)? Maybe. The chance to meet some new and familiar faces? For sure (I love meeting new people, it fires me up). But more than all these things, when I was practicing with one of my friends who works in healthcare, she said, "I never even thought about people with seizures and motor disabilities" and how they interact with digital apps. That's what excites me the most: this belief that EVERYONE should be able to access your content, regardless of health or cognitive conditions. And that first step into this world of accessibility starts with awareness. Swinging by tomorrow? I'll be there, rosé in hand, sharing how the tech industry, and more specific, tech leaders down to Developers, can make our digital world more accessible to all. https://lnkd.in/gi5Zugxr #EmpathyInTech #AccessibilityMatters #InclusiveDesign

The automobile industry is currently witnessing an incredible transformation where innovation is not just limited to materials, lighting, interiors, or engine performance. What truly sets this new era apart is the focus on elevating the human experience. Car manufacturers are investing in technologies that prioritize accessibility, making driving and riding more intuitive and inclusive for everyone. This shift reflects a broader trend where the lines between technology and human experience are blurring, resulting in vehicles that not only transport but also enhance our daily lives in meaningful ways. The future of mobility is here, and it's as much about how we feel as it is about how we drive. According to World Health Organization (WHO), 2.2 billion people worldwide live with some form of visual impairment, making it challenging for them to fully navigate and engage with the digital world. Without accessible design, many face barriers to education, employment, and connection in an increasingly digital society. Digital accessibility isn’t just about compliance—it’s about creating equal opportunities for everyone to participate and thrive. Accessible websites, apps, and tools empower individuals with visual impairments to connect, learn, work, and contribute meaningfully. Let’s prioritize inclusivity and ensure the digital world is a space where everyone belongs. Together, we can break barriers and build a future that leaves no one behind. #WhyAccessibilityMatters #InclusiveDesign #DigitalInclusion #EquityForAll #AccessibilityForEveryone

At the start of November, I experienced a detached retina and lost sight in my right eye. It was pretty scary. On Friday I got the good news that thanks to the quick action of my optician and a brilliant NHS surgeon, I’m on the road to recovery. While I won’t get all my sight back, I’ll regain some over the next few months—and for that, I’m incredibly grateful. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s sent me kind messages, checked in, or just been there. Me and the Beacon Family Services team have felt so supported. The experience has been eye-opening (pun intended). It’s made me reflect on how exhausting it can be to navigate the world when you’re not at full capacity. Many of the children I support have sensory processing delays and let me tell you it’s exhausting to feel like you’re constantly behind, simply because the world wasn’t designed with you in mind. Because I’m a digital tech developer I’ve been involved in designing our resources and digital spaces for people like me—people who might, even temporarily, find digital communication a bit of a slog. Digital accessibility is not about ticking a box under the Equality Act. It’s about making sure everyone—regardless of their capacity—can engage with the digital world we live in. It’s a chance to be thoughtful and inclusive. So, if you are still reading here are some things you can do right now: ✅ Use at least 12-point font size 🔍 It's an easy win if you want to be inclusive. ✅ Think twice before copying everyone in 📨 Only include people when it’s relevant so mailboxes are manageable. ✅ Pick up the phone or send a voice note 🤳 I'm loving connecting personally more. ✅ Respect the process if asked to go through a team 🔁 It’s not about creating barriers but preventing overwhelm. Small changes matter and I am more determined to make a difference on digital accessibility. And, yes, I'm also hoping Chris wins Strictly 🪩 #DigitalAccessibility #InclusiveTech #TechForGood

“𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀.” “𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹.” “𝗠𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱—𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗜?” Feeling like your family’s "tech police"? Trust me, you're not alone. In guiding families through tech challenges, I've discovered that more rules rarely solve the problem. 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱, 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁. That’s why I created the 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁—a simple, written plan (inspired by Andy Crouch’s The Tech-Wise Family) that outlines everyone’s tech rights and responsibilities. Rather than being the “tech police,” parents and kids team up to set healthy family limits together. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀: 📚 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Everyone knows the boundaries, reducing power struggles. 📚 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀: Intentional device-free zones encourage real conversation and connection. 📚 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Kids respect the limits they help create. 📚 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: The agreement evolves with your family’s needs. No more being the "tech police." Reclaim your role of the fun parent with the 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 and lead your family towards mutual respect and understanding around technology. ✌️ Have you started a tech agreement or thinking about it? 👇 Check out more info and examples from my own family's TechTogether agreement below.
