SEPTEMBER 5, dir. Tim Fehlbaum - Movieweb Review "Superbly acted and edited, the film bursts at the seams with tension, anxiety, and professional resolve through 90 mind-blowing minutes. [...] Acclaimed German editor Hansjörg Weißbrich must also be lauded for his vital contribution. He and Fehlbaum constantly cut between roving action outside and boiler room pressure in the control room. Nothing is ever static. The ensemble shuffles between emergencies to track an evolving situation. Uncertainty and confusion has to be wrangled before anything goes live on air. All of this tension is created through skillful editing in post-production." https://lnkd.in/e-yQphmN.

I recently finished a film course about video essays at Columbia. "A video essay is a form of essay presented as a video recording, where the author uses visual elements like film clips, images, and narration to convey an argument or analysis on a specific topic, essentially acting as the audiovisual equivalent of a written essay, often incorporating elements like music and sound effects to enhance the message." Basically writing with images and sound. Video Essays have many forms- from the poetic to the analytical. Here is my first attempt at an analytical style essay- exploring common themes between Pulp Fiction and classic Film Noir. #tarantino #filmnoir #videoessay #columbiauniversity

Would your novel play out like a silent film? Or would it be relatively unchanged if adapted to be performed on a small, empty stage? It’s unlikely that your manuscript hits either of these extremes, but the balance between dialogue and narrative may be off kilter all the same. What does this mean for your manuscript? Apparently, I got published. ✨ Truly chuffed to be part of this volume, together with twelve of my cinema colleagues, and thanks to the joint efforts of our persistent and lovely editors, Denisa Oprea and Liri Chapelan (who also contributed). My bit is titled The Unpublished Word (Manuscripts Don’t Burn): On Self-Censorship, Film Writing & Trauma. Sneak a peek... https://lnkd.in/drM6Rx7b

During preproduction, the script can literally make or break a film right off the bat. Most new filmmakers run into the problem of writing the script only to hit the subplots, or B story, and derail the entire A plot. Yes, B plots help delve deeper into characters and lighten up an already A plot filled story. But when you hit the beginning of Act 2 and the B plot becomes the new A plot because we forgot about the A plot, then we have some issues. The promise to the audience you made in the first 30 pages is no longer viable. To remedy this, I personally write down the goal of the film and the goal of the main character on sticky notes. I usually put them on that monitor I'm typing on so I can be constantly reminded of my purpose. Don't be afraid of the B story and subplots. Just dont burn the house down with them. And if you do burn the house down, make sure it's so bad it's good.
