🚗 The Future of Mobility is Collaborative! 🌐 Back in 2023, Dr. Joachim Post Post, head of BMW purchasing and supplier, highlighted this vision. Yesterday, we put this to practice, during a visit of mobility startups from Programa Desafía as we got a chance to connect, be inspired and discuss where the collaboration in this space needs to take place for progress to happen. Two things to highlight from it: 1️⃣ Challenges in Collaboration: We compared notes on the hurdles of executing successful projects with OEMs or any large enterprises. From identifying the right stakeholders and decision-makers to designing a scalable process for startup solutions (or new products) within an enterprise landscape, the insights were invaluable. 2️⃣ Future of Mobility: We delved into the user perspective and technological advancements. How are holographic displays today paving the way for 3rd and 4th tier autonomous driving? What role does teledriving play? We examined the adoption rates among German drivers, regulatory roadblocks, and the hesitance of many enterprises to fully embrace new solutions. Collaboration is an essential element in shaping the future of mobility, designed around people in motion within enabled cities. Cross-vertical pollination fuels the development of future cities, profoundly impacting our lives. As we gear up for the big day, we keep on sharing stories behind the startups selected for the showcase. 🚀 In this episode of "Top Startups & Entrepreneurs to Watch at EXPO2024," meet Enrico Eberhard, CTO & Co-Founder of AICA SA.🇨🇭 Enrico's journey began in Amsterdam, but his upbringing took him on an odyssey through the UK, US, and Switzerland. Extensive travel experiences nurtured his entrepreneurial spirit and led him to earn a PhD in Robotics from the University of London. 🎓 Eventually, Enrico found himself at the prestigious research lab of EPFL, developing software tools that bridged the gap between cutting-edge research and practical industrial applications. That's where AICA SA was founded in 2019 and incorporated in 2022. The main idea behind AICA is making robots more intelligent by giving them a sense of touch and the ability to learn from feedback. 🤖 This addresses a crucial challenge in industrial automation: making robots capable to do complex tasks, such as assembly, polishing, or surface finishing tasks, that normally require human levels of intelligence. At the moment AICA SA includes 13 employees based in Lausanne with a few customers in Germany 🇩🇪, France 🇫🇷, and Switzerland 🇨🇭. When Schaeffler was looking for startups to solve the problem of gearbox assembly by making the programming easier and the process more adaptive, they chose AICA SA for a reason: the startup took a brand-new approach in robot programming to let the robots learn by itself with force feedback. From Seoul to Boston Automation is becoming a necessity in warehousing! MassRobotics recently hosted 10 South Korean start-ups for a weeklong International Immersion Program in partnership with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology's Global Commercialization Center (GCC). The program aimed to help these startups expand into U.S. markets by connecting them with Boston’s robotics community, and fostering strategic networks for growth. South Korea's strategic location as a gateway between Europe, Asia, and Africa makes it an attractive hub for trade. 🚢  The 8th edition of the #SmartPortChallenge, part of Singapore’s PIER71™ Great Circle 2024, showcased groundbreaking advancements that are steering the industry toward a sustainable and tech-driven future. 📊 Key Highlights from This Year’s Event:  • Unprecedented Participation: Nearly 200 proposals from 35 countries underscore the global appetite for maritime innovation.  • Incubating Success: 28 startups joined the PIER71 Accelerate program, refining business models and go-to-market strategies with expert mentorship.    • Transformative Partnerships: 20 startups secured 30 collaboration letters with Singapore-based companies, paving the way for pilots, grants up to S$100,000, and potential funding up to S$250,000 from the MPA’s MINT Fund.  Winners of Smart Port Challenge Grand Finals 2024: Clearbot, Open Ocean Robotics, and GT Wings emerged as the first, second and third-placed winners respectively. We will be hosted in Stuttgart’s CODE_n innovation hub from September 2024 to January 2025, granting us access to start-up support packages and introductions to leading VCs and Stuttgart’s ecosystem of global companies. Stuttgart invests approximately €30 million in research and development each year, making it a perfect location for us to showcase our shared robotics software platform and foster relationships with developers and companies who share our vision of a universal robotics software ecosystem.
