You saw it at Metstrade and now we can share the specifications of the new cylinder 7.1L Perkins Marine M175C, M200C and M245C propulsion engines, which are currently in development and coming soon. Built for commercial and leisure marine applications, the new propulsion engines are for new build vessels and repower. They offer the durability and reliability that customers have come to expect from any Perkins engine, even in the most challenging of conditions. Watt was working to improve the efficiency of steam engines, which were becoming crucial to the Industrial Revolution. He needed a way to compare the power of his engines to the draft horses commonly used at the time. Watt determined that a horse could turn a mill wheel and perform work at a rate of 550 foot-pounds per second, which he defined as one horsepower. This measurement allowed him to market his steam engines more effectively by quantifying their power in terms familiar to potential customers. Since then, horsepower has become a standard unit for measuring the power of engines, especially in vehicles and machinery.
