✅ Update on #Silver in #Cosmetic Products The safety of Silver (CAS No. 7440-22-4) in cosmetic products has been under assessment by the #SCCS. Recently, the SCCS evaluated micron-sized particulate Silver and found it safe for use in #eyeshadows, #oral exposure products, and shampoos at concentrations ranging from 0.05 to 0.3%. However, in rinse-off products, the safe limit is up to 0.2%, and for leave-on products, it's up to 0.3%. In February 2023, #ECHA’s #RAC recommended classifying Silver as "Toxic for Reproduction Category 2." If confirmed, this would impact its use in cosmetics, except when evaluated and deemed safe by the SCCS. Let's stay informed and keep an eye on the final classification. No oral dosage form looks as appealing to children as soft-gels. Thankfully, the production and subsequent product characteristics counteract that appeal to a large degree. Due to the liquid centre, soft-gel capsules are often blistered, making it more obvious that they are for adults. For scanware, that can create a number of challenges of the type we like to solve best - tricky foil-product-combinations. The reflections within the capsules and their impact on the colour of the blister, for example with aluminium foil, are incorporated into the evaluation software. The use of CMOS cameras and their high resolution at high speed formthe basis of the quality inspection.
