👀 Large Language Models (LLMs) still haven't received the green light for use in healthcare. The FDA’s latest opinion piece highlights a key point: no LLMs have received regulatory authorisation anywhere in the world. With their complexity and potential to reshape healthcare, there’s an ongoing debate on how they should be regulated. Key takeaways include: 1️⃣ Special mechanisms are needed to evaluate LLMs effectively in healthcare 2️⃣ Transparency and rigorous post-market monitoring are essential to ensuring patient safety 3️⃣ Collaboration across developers, regulators, and clinicians will be crucial to get this right As the conversation unfolds, the focus remains on bringing these tools to healthcare responsibly and safely. Perhaps we need to change our mindset to open our eyes and think about how to solve our problems without using AI. AI is ONLY a tool, NOT God, use it, but NOT worship it. Yes. AI can do many things, but NOT everything, at least NOT what we are doing. Our AI initiative is: "With our intellectual property (IP), we can do what ChatGPT, an icon of AI, can't do in data analytics." Do you or any of your contacts need our expertise and our IP? We're selling, NOT talking. Thanks. P.S. We wrote this statement ourselves, without using any AI tool.

Who has a faster AI adoption rate in healthcare? Harvey Castro, MD, MBA. offers an inside look at how size shapes AI adoption, with small clinics and private practices often leading due to agility. But larger systems bring financial muscle, allowing them to fund complex, cutting-edge technologies. In discussion with Murad Hasan and Adil Sarwar, Dr. Castro emphasizes that smaller practices must stay cautious, especially with the flood of AI startups. The takeaway? Both small and large systems must weigh speed against security and resources to navigate AI adoption effectively.

Thank you to Innovation Endeavors' Ani Chemilian and Harpinder Singh for hosting a discussion on AI Safety x Capabilities. We heard from amazing speakers in the space including Seiji Armstrong (Head of ML Infra, AI Content Safety Google), Yonatan Zunger (CVP of AI Safety and Security Microsoft) and Miles Ward (CTO SADA, An Insight company). A key challenge alluded to during the discussion was the lack of common guidelines/regulations. Coming from a healthcare background, it’s unimaginable to think that companies are left to set their own standards and frameworks of safety. Larger companies can afford to have legal and trust teams dedicated towards developing safety protocols in house, but startups lack similar resources to develop their own safety capabilities from scratch, leaving them more vulnerable to AI safety risks. In healthcare we have processes (ex. clinical trials) and regulatory agents (ex. FDA, CDC, EMA etc) ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of drugs and biological products. Even though the tech industry has been exempted from regulations under the premise of fostering growth, the powerful nature of the AI technology asks for common regulatory frameworks to ensure consistent standards across the players. Food for thought: Whose values should be represented in AI and how can you teach ethics to AI systems if to begin with both can be subjective? #ai #aisafety #startup #entrepreneurship #deeptech #deeptechstartups
