“In peace, justice and liberty….” Peace symbolises the collective harmony that we strive for, even in challenging times. It is a reminder that, despite differences and struggles, we must stick together without violence or conflict to build a future that benefits all. Justice embodies fairness and accountability. In times when there are concerns over censorship, surveillance, or political corruption, justice is the beacon that guides the demand for truth, transparency, and the equal application of laws. It assures that those in power are held to the same standards as the citizens they serve. Liberty represents the fundamental freedom to think, speak, and act without restraint. It is especially relevant when voices are at risk of being silenced. Liberty is the foundation upon which individuals participate in shaping their country’s future. These words serve as both a reminder and a call to action, reminding us of our collective identity and the core principles that we cherish. J-8

The Four Freedoms | Freedom for Virtue Political freedom relies on the virtue and morality of citizens, as emphasized by historical figures like Livy, Jefferson, and Mill. True freedom involves self-mastery and the pursuit of virtues such as family fidelity, self-control, humility, and toleration. These virtues reduce the need for external governance, support strong communities, and preserve a truly free and flourishing society. https://lnkd.in/gmbXHN9t

Today, we at the Attorney General Alliance and the National Association of Attorneys General solemnly remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. On this day, we honor the lives lost, the heroes who emerged, and the resilience of our nation. In the aftermath of this tragedy, we witnessed an extraordinary unity that transcended differences and brought us together as one nation. The spirit of solidarity, compassion, and determination that arose from the ashes of that day continues to inspire us. As organizations dedicated to bringing forth divergent points of view for open honest conversations and problem solving, let us remember September 11 as an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to justice, peace, the rule of law, and the values that unite us. Together, we stand stronger. There has never been a fabric woven of divergent points of view that is stronger, more resilient, or more enduring than the fabric of American freedom. #NeverForget #UnitedWeStand #September11 #Unity #aga #attorneysgeneral #attorney #general #naag #usa #freedom #states #unitedstates #law #justice #ruleoflaw #america #stateags #lawyers #america

A secure society is built on a balance of justice, security, and personal freedom, with the state playing a crucial role in ensuring these values. The balance between these principles is delicate and dynamic, requiring constant vigilance and adjustment. The state's role is complex and contested, as it must balance its mandate to protect public order and prevent overreach while ensuring the state acts as a facilitator of freedom. Fairness is central to this discussion, as it calls for uniform rules to govern state interventions. However, the pursuit of equity leads to the state overstepping its bounds, infringing on individual freedoms and the principle of justice. This debate highlights the importance of balancing justice and support for the vulnerable, avoiding policies that inadvertently harm society. Real-world examples from Australia, particularly the Northern Territory, illustrate the practical challenges and successes of striving for a secure society. Community policing initiatives in remote Indigenous communities aim to balance respect for local traditions with effective law enforcement, while the Northern Territory's failed approach to youth justice reflects the ongoing struggle to find the right balance between punitive measures and rehabilitative support. The foundations of a secure society lie in the careful calibration of justice, security, and freedom, guided by the principles of fairness and equality. As we move forward, it is essential to remain vigilant in protecting individual liberties while ensuring the common good, striving for a balance that honors the dignity of all members of society. #security #securitytraining #justice #fairness #freedom

CAN PHYSICS SAVE FREE WILL? Neuroscience seems to pour cold water on the notion of free will. What does physics say about it? One argument is that the universe, including the bits of it that make up your brain, is entirely deterministic. The state it is in right now determines the state it will be a millisecond, a month or a million years from now. Therefore free will cannot exist. That's not the only view. Quantum physics, our most fundamental theory of how the building blocks of the universe behave, might offer a way out. This theory says that a degree of randomness and uncertainly is built into the properties and movements of particles - including those we are composed of. Scale that up and what happens in the universe can't be entirely determined. But this doesn't solve the issue of free will. If the universe - including your brain - is fundamentally random, then how can you be said to have freely chosen to do anything? Founding Chairman at Rasmussen Global political consultancy -- Founder of the Alliance of Democracies Foundation
“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” On this International Day of Democracy, I want to thank all the inspiring freedom fighters I have met through the Alliance of Democracies Foundation. From Ukraine to Venezuela, these individuals risk everything for the freedoms that many of us take for granted. Let us take a moment to thank them, and to remember that the fight for freedom begins at home. By standing up for free speech, open markets, and personal liberty, we keep the democratic flame alive.

“…and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." The pledge that many of us made throughout our life is a reminder of what this nation has claimed to represent. An undivided place with justice for everyone. Unfortunately, this promise has consistently been unfulfilled. This Independence Day we ask you to ask yourself: 💡 What historical accounts of erasure, dehumanization, and revolution could serve as a framework for contextualizing our present? 💡Who has traditionally benefitted from mainstream historical narratives presented in school, news outlets and other media? Why is this important? 💡How can I be more deliberate and intentional about expanding my understanding of the history of colonialism, imperialism and white supremacy? Why do these questions matter? Because the answers can help us to imagine a different and better society that is designed to not break promises. Liberty and justice for all doesn’t have to be a dream, it can be our reality if we work together to BE EQUITABLE. We hope that you enjoy your time away from the office and with loved ones to celebrate and reflect.
