However, a disconnect exists between academia and industry, leading to several challenges. Curriculum Misalignment: University curriculums are often outdated and theory-heavy, lacking practical application. Internship Environments: Big companies sometimes fail to offer practical experience, unlike startups that provide creative, hands-on projects. Faculty Industrial Exposure: Professors often lack real-world industry experience, impacting their ability to teach practical skills. Evaluation Processes: Academic evaluations focus on grades, while industry evaluations are performance-based. Skill Gap: Students often lack necessary technical and soft skills, leading to a performance gap. Lack of Interaction Cells: Universities and industries rarely interact, leading to outdated academic knowledge. Unrealistic Student Expectations: Students often expect high salaries and positions without understanding the effort required. India's Employment Crisis: Startup and the Future of Education. During my recent market visits to various campus and universities and my close interaction with students and faculty helped me to realized the real concern about the low placements in 2024. The same was reflected in recent reports the concerning trend of job placements in top colleges of India like IIT,IIM where the placements saw 25% of its students unplaced, with the lowest salary offer being 4 LPA. My bigger worry lies with the students, colleges and universities of the challenges being faced by those who are in Tier 2 and Tier 3 or below colleges. India is the world's fastest-growing economy with the youngest workforce, yet many students struggle to find meaningful employment. The issue isn't a lack of jobs—companies have vacancies—but rather the lack of employable skills among graduates and post graduates. Despite spending 19 years in formal education, students often lack the practical skills that employers are looking for. So, what’s going wrong? 🔻 Talent-industry disconnect ➠ Many talented students, especially in Tier 2 and 3 cities, miss out on opportunities because top recruiters focus on elite campuses. Startups are stepping in to fill this gap. 🔻 Lack of practical exposure ➠ Students need more than theoretical knowledge. #EdTech in India: A Booming Market with Huge Potential Here are some key facts I learned about the EdTech industry in India during 4th week of my internship working on Edutech Project. Massive Market: The education sector in India is expected to reach a whopping US$225 billion by 2025, up from US$117 billion in 2020. Largest Student Population: India boasts the world's largest student population with over 250 million school-goers! Higher education is booming too, with over 43 million students enrolled. Teacher Shortage: The Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR) highlights a need for EdTech solutions. At senior secondary schools, it's 47:1, compared to the ideal 26:1. Rapid Growth: The number of colleges and universities is surging, with universities reaching 1,265 in FY24 and colleges reaching 50,734. EdTech Boom: The Indian EdTech market is expected to reach US$30 billion by 2031, fueled by a 20% CAGR growth.
