I know that a lot of people look at these rates and think, “Wow, that is a lot of money!” This is my third year of freelancing, and I have to say — this is the absolute bottom line. Rates should not go down anymore. A freelancer has many, many costs. In the end — with all the insecurity and the volatile market at the moment — we freelancers can barely stay above the threshold of being profitable, and we need this to be able to thrive on the long run. Any rate lower than this and we end up paying the difference between what we need and what we get, out of our own pockets. Lower rates would leave us without means to save for a rainy day (or periods with lower or no income), to pay our insurances, or to support our families. As freelancers, we are focused on delivering client value. We inject our knowledge and experience from many years into your companies. We are highly functional, dependable, and versatile partners. We are the way forward when you are stuck. We give you a boost when you need change and high-quality solutions. The benefits we bring far outweigh our costs. We are your cheat code to win.
The current freelance rates I see for Designers in the Netherlands are: Lead Designer - 95,- to 120,- Eur Senior UX Designer - 80,- to 95,- Eur Medior UX Designer - 65,- to 80,- Eur PS: Designer asked me just now: Sorry Sergio, what is this based on? It seems off by a pretty substantial "margin"... Answer: Input for these numbers: Spoken to around 200 freelance designers these 2 months and worked on several freelance assignments for customers these 2 months. All in NL. Wide range because the exact rate depends on too many factors.

1mo100% - We need to stop the race to the bottom on fees. As a zzp-er you need to arrange your own pension and disability insurance. I am very sad to see a group (won't mention any names) of designers question my reasons to be transparent and share my experiences. We should work together instead of against each other.
