🙍♀️ My daughter was complaining this morning about how distracting and all consuming she finds a particular social media/messaging app. We chatted for a bit about it and I asked why not delete it and do life differently to which she replied with a tinge of despair... "I can't - it's how we all do everything" This reminded me of something I heard at the Smart Data Forum on Friday last week with Liz Brandt, Ctrl-Shift and a room full of incredible people. During the day I was inspired to: (i) 💡 Better understand the impact of the smart data revolution on our economies, societies, and consumer experiences (ii) 📈 Explore a set of smart data use cases across a whole range industries and countries and see the wide-reaching value created by policy makers, entrepreneurs and technologists. (iii) 💼 Notice the strong and passionate collaboration across industry and government to drive forward the benefits of Smart Data. My reflection as I travelled home was that every industry can be transformed by the application of Smart Data but the biggest barrier to success is the rigidity of "how we all do everything" today. To realise the value of a Smart Data economy * 🔃 Our business models need to flip on their heads * 🤑 We need to find new ways to monetize services powered by smart data * ⁉ We need the courage to question who might my customer be if we actually do this I was excited to see passionate people pushing forward in different pockets of industry to challenge "how we all do everything".
