Britain's On Premise consumers maintain a preference for Prosecco over Champagne amidst the cost of living crisis. As purse strings tighten, Prosecco's affordability and value proposition appeal to a broader audience, contributing to its continued dominance in the market. Prosecco captures an impressive 72.1% of the total volume share and 59.3% of the value share in the combined Champagne & Sparkling Wine category. In contrast, Champagne has witnessed a decline in both its total volume (14.3%) and value (29.8%) share. 🥂 Learn More: https://lnkd.in/gEKacGMp

Sazerac Company is going against the grain and I dig it. Everybody else is going more premium and divesting budget brands. Sazerac is doubling down. First, they switched to beer distributors which gives them better access to those lower-price touch points (convenience stores/gas stations). Then they bought Buzzballs, one of the fastest growing brands in that space. Now a cheap flavored vodka brand that also thrives in those environments. And I bet they got a Black Friday level discount on it in this market. Long-term, cohesive strategy. I love it!
The deal, announced today (3 December) in a brief statement, is the latest disposal made by Constellation Brands, which says it is aiming to focus on “higher-end wine and spirits brands”. https://lnkd.in/eeak_xhQ

Premium Wine Segment Faces Challenges in the U.S. Market The premium wine category, defined as wines priced at $20 or more, has experienced a significant decline in sales within the U.S. off-premise channel in H1 2024. This downturn has outpaced the overall performance of other wine segments. Furthermore, the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of premium wine sales since the COVID-19 pandemic has deteriorated compared to the broader wine category. This suggests that factors such as consumer behavior shifts, economic conditions, and industry-wide pressures may be contributing to the segment's challenges.
