Focusing on the 'International' in #iwd2024 Here are five key areas needing joint action, as set out by the United Nations: 1. Investing in women, a human rights issue: Time is running out. Gender equality is the greatest human rights challenge, benefiting everyone. 2. Ending poverty: Due to the COVID pandemic and conflicts, 75 million more people have fallen into severe poverty since 2020. Immediate action is crucial to prevent over 342 million women and girls living in poverty by 2030. 3. Implementing gender-responsive financing: Conflicts and rising prices may lead 75% of countries to cut public spending by 2025, negatively impacting women and their essential services. 4.Shifting to a green economy and care society: The current economic system disproportionately affects women. Advocates propose a shift to a green economy and care society to amplify women's voices. 5. Supporting feminist change-makers: Despite leading efforts, feminist organizations receive only 0.13% of official development assistance. This International Women’s Day, let’s unite to transform challenges into opportunities and shape a better future for all. Shout out to all the inspirational women in #LocalGovernment and at #WestMidlandsEmployers who are working to break down gender stereotypes and barriers in our sector and across our communities.

INSPIRE INCLUSION 🖐🏾 I am really excited about International Women's Day (IWD) 2024 especially with its theme being "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress". There are five key areas needing joint actions according to the UN for this IWD. 1. Investing in women, a human rights issue. 2. Ending Poverty. 3. Implementing a gender-responsive financing 4. Shifting to a green economy and care society. 5. Supporting female change-makers. I am a firm believer that there is so much more to the woman than what meets the eye. We have the capacity to enact change and make profound impacts. The International commemoration is on the 8th of March, however, the month of March is Women's Month. Feel free to empower, celebrate, and inspire women all month long and even after. #inspireinclusion #investinwomen

Women are not just victims of violence; they are, and should continue to be, architects of peace with the transformative power to provide workable solutions. From conflict resolution to grassroots activism, women play an indispensable role in rebuilding societies that have been torn apart by violence and hate. Yet, despite their critical contributions, women’s voices are still drowned out by systemic exclusion. This isn’t just a gender issue—it’s a peace issue. When women are absent from peacebuilding processes, we all lose. Governments and international bodies must go beyond token acknowledgments of women’s roles. It’s time to stop paying lip service and give women the space, resources, and respect they deserve as leaders and change-makers. Investing in women is investing in peace. #defyhatenow #Women4Peace #SheBuildsPeace
