𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝘄𝗲 – 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲'𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀
This weekend, my family is going away for a short break, and my youngest daughter is beyond excited. She was asking me when she should start packing, and what to pack and exclaimed several times during the day about how excited she was. Then she asked me if I was excited and when I didn't immediately reply to her, she said, "Mummy, you are never excited about anything nowadays."
Her answer made me think. Am I excited about the getaway? Not really as I'm thinking of all the adjustments I have to make to my schedule, the things I have to park aside when we go away, and what I need to catch up on when we come back. I'm only referring to a 3-day break as opposed to the long holiday we'll be taking in Dec!
My week has been jam-packed with coaching sessions and business tasks, leaving me more focused on ticking off to-dos than embracing the joy in the little things.
Have I lost that childlike awe and wonder?
In Positive Psychology, awe aligns with the "P" in PERMA—Positive Emotions.
Experiencing awe opens us to moments of deep connection, lifts our mood, and, can even foster a greater sense of purpose.
Awe connects us to something larger than ourselves, giving perspective and a profound sense of gratitude.
It makes life feel expansive like there’s still so much to discover.
To nurture awe, start with the simple act of slowing down. Notice the details around you, whether it’s a sunset, a beautiful melody, or, like my daughter, the excitement of a small adventure.
I took time to really look at her as we chatted before her bedtime. I prayed for her and watched her settle down in bed.
Awe doesn't need grand gestures; it lives in the quiet appreciation of the everyday.
When was the last time you felt awe? I know some of us find it difficult to do so in our current circumstances. Know that there will be good days ahead and appreciate yourself in this moment for just being here and showing up.
