This is a great article that highlights the importance of both excellence and equity in gifted education. It tackles common misconceptions, like the idea that gifted programs don’t benefit marginalized students. In fact, research shows that acceleration and grouping can make a big difference. It’s a great reminder for us to keep pushing for stronger, more inclusive programs that truly meet the needs of all learners. https://lnkd.in/eEszRm-j #giftededucation #equityineducation
In this article, Jackie Drummer talks about how being a longtime gifted education specialist she "...was delighted to read this article, Think Again: Are Education Programs for High Achievers Inherently Inequitable? in the Thomas Fordham Institute's 10-29-24 publication. The author, Brandon L. Wright, put to rest many of my worries and challenged me to work anew for excellence and equity in gifted education."

The Autumn number of 'Forum: for promoting 3 to 19 comprehensive education' has just been published online. Guest-edited by Professor John Holford, 'Reconstructing adult education for the common good' steps beyond Forum's usual field of focus, the 3 to 19 age-range, to consider how the comprehensive ideal informs the pioneering work of Fircroft Adult Education College in Birmingham, the Workers' Educational Association, trade union education, and education at further and higher levels. Contributors explore what 'the common good' might mean, and how a commitment to it animates lifelong learning, social justice, and the making of citizens. https://lnkd.in/e7pfHeUw

The Spring 2024 semester has come to an end. For me, one of the many highlights of this semester was co-facilitating CU Denver's Inclusive Pedagogy Academy. "Inclusive pedagogy aims to create learning environments where students of all backgrounds and identities feel valued and respected. By embracing inclusive pedagogy, educators foster a sense of belonging and honor student strengths and experiences. This approach also encourages instructors to address structural and historical inequalities that have often marginalized certain groups in education. " https://lnkd.in/gwdGfNJ3
