Understanding the Several Parts of a Beehive As I started my beekeeping journey, I acquired secondhand beekeeping equipment. In this video, I share what beehives mostly consist of, highlighting the several parts of a beehive. This is one of my British National Hives that I am currently working on to prepare for my upcoming bees. I’ve started cleaning the propolis and old honeycomb, and I’ve also scorched the hive to sterilise it and remove any nasties that could harm my future colony. Money is like a colony of honey bees. If you give it the right environment, it will grow and prosper. It will grow all by itself, so long as the beekeeper makes sure the environment stays right for growth. If conditions are right for long enough, one colony can send out extra bees to start a new colony. Over a very long period of time, a careful beekeeper can have many colonies of bees. This organic, natural growth takes time. This slow, organic growth of the hives doesn’t require a lot of effort on the part of the beekeeper. Many beekeepers are hobbyists and have day jobs that pay the bills. They don’t fret about the bees while they are at work. They check on them in the evenings and after work and on weekends. The bees are doing all the real work; the beekeeper just has to put in a little effort to keep the environment right for the bees to do what they naturally do.

Sign up now for "Introduction to Practical Beekeeping." Scheduled for Saturday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., this hands-on workshop will take place at the Chico State University Farm. It is designed for anyone wishing to learn more about bees or start a hive. It is also an elective in our Technical Assistant Provider certification program as time will also be available for more experienced beginning beekeepers who want more specific information on managing their hives. The workshop will be led by two professional beekeepers, Kevin Ward and Jerry Hightower, both of whom have a lifetime of successful beekeeping. They will cover starting a hive, installing a queen and package bees, how to safely manage a hive and other basic beekeeping skills. Rob Snyder, an expert in the management of bee pests and diseases, will share valuable information on how to sustain a healthy bee colony. Fredy Valenzuela, an experienced, bilingual beekeeper, will be on hand with the other workshop presenters to ensure that participants have an opportunity to get their questions answered. The objective is for participants to gain confidence to start their own hive or to just satisfy their curiosity about bees. "With bee populations declining globally, it's crucial to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to maintain honeybee populations," Ward said. "This workshop aims to empower participants to become stewards of bee health and sustainability." Pre-registration is required for the workshop, with limited space available. The registration fee is $85 per person. To register, visit https://buff.ly/44e3PHq For more information, call 530-805-2899 (BUZZ) or visit https://buff.ly/4aLJGv2 for more information. No single honeybee can live on its own for very long. While the collective hive could live forever, the individual bees are mortal, and they depend on each other to survive. https://bit.ly/3V7w1cI #foxhoundbeeco #beekeeping #beekeepingtips

When you are getting your bee hives set up, it’s important to take into account where you are going to put a beehive. You should consider the location of your bees, facing the east or southeast, dry spot, east to access, etc… But nobody talks about what to put your hives on. https://bit.ly/3xyhfBT #foxhoundbeeco #beekeeping #beekeepingtips #hivestands
