HarvestPlus distributed zinc rice seed and trained farmers in its Scaling Biofortified Crop Production project in Sirajganj, Bangladesh. The project implemented by HarvestPlus and supported by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, aims to increase awareness and access to climate-smart, biofortified planting materials, boost production of nutrient-rich crops, and improve the enabling environment for nutritious foods. Earlier in this boro (irrigated) season, project distributed zinc rice seeds to 31,000 farmers in Sirajgonj, Panna and Natore district. The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and Nutritious Agrifuture Bangladesh (a network entity of HarvestPlus Solutions) organized an event at Belkuchi Upazilla auditorium in Sirajgonj. Susanto Dhar, Upazilla Agriculture Officer, DAE, Belkuchi Upazila (sub-district) chaired the meeting, while A. Z. M. Ahsan Shahid Sarker, Deputy Director, DAE, Sirajgonj District was the chief guest in the event. Mohammad Wahidul Amin, Country Coordinator, HarvestPlus Bangladesh and Mofidul Islam, District Training Officer, DAE, Sirajganj were present as special guests.
