The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations established World Milk Day on June 1st each year to recognize milk's significance as a global food. Milk is packed with essential nutrients, including calcium, vitamin D, potassium, and protein, making it a vital component of a balanced diet. It's particularly important for bone health and the development of strong teeth and bones. India is the largest milk producer in the world, contributing over 22% of global milk production. This achievement was driven by the White Revolution, also known as Operation Flood, which transformed India from a milk-deficient nation to a milk-sufficient one. Hlo, farmers milk production at farm can be increased by 2 when nutrition is paramount. Maize is one of the best high energy and protein nutrient feed that is highly digestible and palatable. During feed scarcity like in months of Late June to early September in western Uganda, we advise farmers to always stock adequate feeds inform of silage for efficient production. In many densely populated countries, rice contributes up to 80 percent of the energy intake for the poor. However, staple crops like rice have low levels of zinc concentration, contributing to the prevalence of zinc deficiency. This makes rice an ideal candidate for biofortification with zinc. In fact, biofortified rice can provide up to 40 percent of the daily zinc needs for women of reproductive age and children when consumed regularly. Zinc rice can provide up to 60 percent of daily zinc needs and contribute to a reduction in zinc deficiency in regions where daily rice consumption is high.
