Free speech; What is free speech in the world of tech where a government can ban a social media site, or where a social media site may prefer one view over another? Is there such a thing as unbiased news?

🌊 Upstream vs Downstream ⛵ Just as Tom Bilyeu here.. My focus is less on politics. And more on ideas. As #marketing professionals (and citizens), it's hard to ignore a few aspects of the current political scene. One of the most interesting has been the "parallel" campaign by Bob Kennedy. While most people were watching the debate exclusively by Trump vs Biden on CNN (TV); Kennedy was hosting #TheRealDebate including his ideas (which could be very valuable) in a more democratic process of sorts. So apparently these are some numbers.. 📺 CNN :: 47.9M viewers (Trump vs Biden) 📉 Decline of 35% from 73M in 2020 📶 Online :: 6M viewers (The Real Debate) 📈 Increase of 50% compared to the 3M viewers from the online version of Trump vs Biden debate. Obviously the difference is still huge. But.. What happens when media habits change? Even more incredible is how Elon Musk allowed Kennedy to host the debate on the X platform (Trump has been his candidate of choice for some time, apparently), which is a media format with substantial increase in reach and could - sometime in the future - disrupt the course of history for a younger and more online audience. That could be a very interesting development to follow in the future and probably one that could make a difference in media, political processes and even Democracy. I promote uncensored political speech on Facebook & LinkedIn by alleging that I think retired FBI agent Dave Burlew is a dirty cop who along with hundreds of Kansas state & federal judges, prosecutors & legislators, county sheriffs & police chiefs are required to betray their oath sworn to God to protect the US Constitution from a domestic enemy - themselves. I truly appreciate that Dave & dozens of members of the Not Ready For Prime Time Kansas Illuminati are willing to to be my Facebook friend & LinkedIn connections. LinkedIn is more powerful because I can see reports of who has checked my profile to see if I am a real person. A member of the UK Ministry of Defence & CNN reporter checked out my profile, but I doubt that they will become free speech advocates like Julian Assange or Edward Snowden. I think Burlew secretly wants to be an amateur CIA agent provocateur in the same way I want to be a muck raking journalist exposing systemic evil at the county, state & national level. In response to yesterday’s prison swap, Dave posted this meme about Brittany Grinner & I replied with 2 comments with links & pictures with evidence to allege that Dave helped 2024 GOP Congressional candidate & former Kansas State AG Derek Schmidt cover up the 12/2017 Haldol poisoning of Bogdana Osipova Mobley by Butler County jailers & the related 11/1/18 murder of Trump Asst. HHS Secretary Daniel Best. Nothing may change other than Luke warm American Christians being forced to decide if the will defect to Satan. Biden uses social media to exit the presidential race, bypassing traditional media to prevent leaks. It certainly has advantages: it assures that everyone gets the news at the same time and that the sender remains in control over the message. But as Axios rightfully notes, there is a huge risk in using social media for official announcements, because of the glaring problem with misinformation on the platforms - and the unwillingness of some platforms to deal with it. The more users will become used to reading official announcements on these platforms, the more they will be used for misinformation. Note that it took about 15 minutes before media reported it - the time traditional media needed to fact check the news. That's a good thing. You don't want to be the journalist/media outlet who copy-pastes this and get it wrong. https://lnkd.in/evd2H9eN

X-odus: @EFJEUROPE account will be frozen from 20 January 2025 The EFJ has decided it will no longer post content on Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, from 20 January 2025, when Donald J. Trump will officially become the 47th President of the United States. Like many European media outlets (The Guardian, Dagens Nyheter, La Vanguardia, Ouest-France, Sud-Ouest, etc.) and journalists’ organisations, such as the German Journalists’ Association (DJV), the EFJ considers that it can no longer ethically participate in a social network that its owner has transformed into a machine of disinformation and propaganda. In the aftermath of the American elections, the EFJ noted the threat to democracy and freedom of expression posed by the collusion between the president of the most powerful country in the world, Donald J. Trump, and the richest man in the world, Elon Musk, who is also the owner of the social network X and who has been picked to lead a new “Department of Government Efficiency” (Doge) when Donald J. Trump takes charge as president on 20 January 2025. Just after Trump’s election, Elon Musk, who has been active in American politics as a vocal and financial supporter of Donald J. Trump, said that legacy media is dead, claiming that “most legacy media lied relentlessly to the public”. “We cannot continue to participate in feeding the social network of a man who proclaims the death of the media and therefore of journalists,” said EFJ President Maja Sever. “The social media site X has become the preferred vector for conspiracy theories, racism, far-right ideas and misogynistic rhetoric. X is a platform that no longer serves the public interest at all, but the particular ideological and financial interests of its owner and his political allies.” “The editorial evolution of X, since its acquisition by Elon Musk, is simply in contradiction with our humanist values, our commitment to press freedom and media pluralism, and our fight against all forms of hatred and discrimination. The decision to suspend our @EFJEUROPE account seemed obvious to us and we invite our affiliates and all organisations that defend freedom of expression to migrate to other platforms,” added EFJ General Secretary Ricardo Gutiérrez.

A good reminder that short clips can often mislead or not provide the needed context. Trust your eyes and ears BUT make sure you have the full story and context. When A.I. gets better it will be a lot easier to mess around. This goes for both political teams, by the way. Each side is going to really ramp up 'selling' you a story. oh .. and FYI: White House could easily solve the 'cheapfake' issue by putting Biden out in front of the media at least once a week for open-ended, widely watched press conferences.
