Nuclear Energy is not a zero-sum game where all of our effort should be put in one or two designs, become very good at building them and leave it at that. Nuclear Energy is cornucopia, it has to offer so much more than 1.6GW plants. It is versatile, it has multiple dimensions, it has different faces! Yes, I want large contemporary Light Water Reactors; Yes, I want large Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors; but can I have high-temperature reactors too? Molten Salt Reactors? Pebble bed Reactors? Liquid Metal Fast Breeder Reactors? Yes, please... It is time we learn to walk and chew gum simultaneously!

Nuclear Reactor News 🚨 The advanced reactor field is witnessing a mix of challenges and progress. NuScale Power, the only company to have navigated the licensing process successfully, has faced setbacks with its consortium of utilities. This has led to a significant stock price drop and workforce reductions. Other companies like X-energy and Oklo are also navigating through the complexities of public offerings, private financing, and design modifications. However, despite these hurdles, there is ongoing progress in the sector, with several companies continuing to develop innovative reactor designs like GE Hitachi's BWRX-300, TerraPower's Natrium, and X-energy's Xe-100. GREAT! -- so get a dozen units on order to build the value chain. What is the holdup? Or waste another two years en route to 24 GWs by 2050. The units can be built like aircraft. LWR technology is well established. Seriously, what are the real reasons for delay while the older reactors (8 GW) close down? Delay need not be Budget... UK HMG can MAKE money over time financing 60 year assets when priced right. Provide "Govt Preferred Equity" investment funds now -- return of funds over time. Investment in revenue producing assets -- this is not welfare spending. Real reason? Narrow-minded, unimaginative thinking (all parties), stuck in a 2-year time horizon. Once operating, nuclear assets bring net money into Treasury! Not "net zero", net cash!
