I don't know who needs to hear this but please stop describing yourself as 'Aspiring, Budding, Upcoming' etc. You are setting yourself up to be underpaid. You are a product designer and not an aspiring product designer! Let the recruiter/client/hiring manager assess you and determine your skill level, so they can offer compensation that is commensurate with your skills. When you describe yourself with those adjectives, you automatically create a bias in their minds and YOU WILL BE UNDERPAID. #FranklySpeakingWithFranklyne

If you're a senior designer who believes your sole responsibility is crafting designs and not mentoring juniors on your team - you are wrong. You're missing a critical aspect of your role. What truly makes you an effective senior designer is your ability to nurture raw talent and empower your team to bring the best ideas to life. We've all wished we could clone ourselves to get more things done. Refining the rough diamonds on your team is the next best thing - even if it takes years to pay off.

I love these examples and couldn't agree more that design thinking can benefit so many parts of your organization. I'd say this is a big reason for the longevity and success of our partnerships over the years. At Aero Interactive we tend to initially engage with orgs on their product or website design needs, but find ourselves advising on other business needs that come up organically. Understanding that user experience design goes far beyond the confines of a screen is crucial. It's about crafting an exceptional customer journey across every touchpoint. At Aero, we don't just start with the design of a digital product; we strategize around the entire customer experience journey. From the initial interaction with our digital platforms—be it through a landing page, our website, or engaging videos—to nurturing prospects into becoming loyal customers and advocates of our digital products. Our approach is rooted in a deep understanding of target audiences and the transformative paths we envision for them. This holistic strategy ensures that every digital interaction is not only seamless but also deeply resonant with users' needs and expectations. Honestly with this being such a natural part of the job, it's hard to remember every conversation, but here are a few examples of questions that have come up and solutions we've provided as a design partner: ➝ How can we better convey the value of our brand to our target audience and get them to that "aha" moment that makes users come back to our digital product? ➝ How can we take our clients on a cohesive journey with the business not just inside the digital product but across all touchpoints? ➝ What processes does our internal team find themselves repeating that could be designed and automated for efficiency?
Interesting career moves I've seen: → Designer > Founder → VP of Design > Senior IC → Head of Design > Head of People → Head of Design > Director of Product → Senior Design Director > Design Partner → Director of Design > Director of Engineering There's so much opportunity to utilise design experience in other areas of the business. Design is one of the only disciplines where design can benefit every part of an organisation. Here's to designers moving into other disciplines, if that is your calling.

During our product development process, we're constantly thinking about prioritization. What do we build next? Do we focus on satisfaction drivers (something shiny ✨) or dissatisfaction drivers (where is my 😡 ) ? We've added a lot of new features that relate to the latter lately. We think we've drastically improved the way investors get (financial) reporting from us, but we also try to give context, and try to never just 'drop' information on our users. In my next post I'll dive deeper into how we find out what is important to build, and the initial process. Do you think you can do better? We're hiring a full time Product Designer. 👉 Get in touch! (2/2) Motion design and product design are two completely different disciplines. While overlaps between these fields are common and adapting to them can make us better at our jobs, it’s unreasonable to expect a designer to master both entirely. Some may eventually juggle both effortlessly, but handling small or immediate challenges across disciplines should be seen as a plus, not a baseline expectation. Expecting designers to be experts in every related field overlooks the complexities of each discipline. Additionally, product designers often find themselves moonlighting as project managers, juggling timelines, stakeholder communications, and team coordination on top of their design responsibilities. So, let's acknowledge that IT'S OKAY for designers to focus on their specialties. Expecting a single individual to know it all is NOT FINE, unrealistic and unfair, and becoming all too common, unfortunately. Industry Standard CTC = F(X); where X = Current CTC Over the past few weeks, I’ve been exploring opportunities in the design industry, and I’ve learned a lot through the process. Recently, I was in conversation with a company for a Junior Product Designer role. While the opportunity initially seemed promising, the experience has highlighted some important aspects of the hiring process that I believe are worth sharing. Transparency in discussions, especially around compensation, is crucial for both candidates and employers. Unfortunately, I encountered a situation where I was asked to disclose my current salary without being given any information about the budget for the role. For me, this raised concerns about alignment and fairness in the hiring process. I decided to step back from this opportunity, reaffirming my commitment to roles where open communication and mutual respect are valued. #JobSearch #UIUX #DesignIndustry #CareerGrowth

One unique and creative career is "Experiential Designer." Experiential designers craft immersive environments that engage multiple senses, often blending art, technology, and storytelling to create memorable experiences in physical or digital spaces. This field allows professionals to work on diverse projects like museum exhibits, retail spaces, theme parks, or even interactive events. It requires a creative mindset, knowledge of human behavior, and a blend of design, architecture, and technology. As technology and virtual experiences continue to grow, this role becomes more significant in shaping how people interact with spaces and brands.
