Celebrating the completion of my internship. ✨❤ Proud to have been part of Atlas Honda internship program, at Die Casting Plant. 🌟 Thank you for the opportunity to grow and learn in a dynamic industry. Got the opportunity to do a project and a task assigned by my Supervisors. • Project: "Improvement in the T4 Heat Treatment Cycle to reduce the energy cost" By doing experiments at different temperature ranges and for different time cycles, studying the result hardness and comparing it with the required standard hardness, reached to a conclusion to reduce the energy cost by doing heat treatment at reduced temperature. • Task Assigned: "Composition Study of Aluminum Alloy" Study of composition of the Aluminum alloy being used there in Die Casting plant and effects of the alloying elements in casted components. #learningphase #internshipcompletion #CastingandFoundry #Metallurgy

I am pleased to share that I have successfully completed a rewarding one-month internship at El Araby Group's top-loading washing machine factory. This experience provided me with a comprehensive understanding of various facets of manufacturing and operations. Throughout my internship, I had the opportunity to explore several key sections of the factory, including: - Mechanical Section - Basket Section - Cabinet Section(Yutaka Machine) - Plastic Section - Assembly Line In addition, I visited the Control Units Factory, where I observed both the automatic and manual production sections. The automatic section featured advanced technologies, including Huji and Fuji machines, which are integral to the production of sophisticated control units. Key learnings from this internship included: 1. 5S Method and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM): Understanding the principles of workplace organization and efficiency, as well as maintenance strategies aimed at improving productivity. 2. Functionality of Top-Loading Washing Machines: Gaining insights into the operational differences between washing and spinning cycles. 3. Pneumatic vs. Hydraulic Systems: Differentiating between these systems in terms of functionality and application. 4. Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Control Units: Learning about the role of PLCs in automating and controlling manufacturing processes. 5. Quality Control (QC) vs. Quality Assurance (QA): Understanding the distinctions between these two critical aspects of manufacturing quality. 6. ABB Robotic Arms: Working with robotic arms programmed using the RAPID language to automate tasks. 7. Various Presses and Dies: Gaining experience with different types of presses and dies used in the manufacturing process. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to my manager,Mahmoud Asfour, M.Sc. M.Sc., for his unwavering support, guidance, and invaluable advice throughout this internship. This experience has significantly enhanced my technical skills and deepened my understanding of manufacturing processes. I am eager to apply these insights to my future professional endeavors. #Internship #Manufacturing #Engineering #ElArabyGroup #ProfessionalDevelopment

Internship Spotlight Paper Science and Engineering opens up many opportunities for our students, Kaia Markert is staying close to campus this summer working for Wolfspeed Semiconductor as a Chemical Mechanical Planarization Engineering Intern. He takes us through his adventure! What has been your favorite part so far? The Wolfspeed internship program is very well organized because there are over 100 interns in Durham every summer. Not only do they host fun events like zip lining and intern dinners with the CEO, Gregg Lowe —just a really cool guy, they also help you learn a lot about the processes through meaningful projects. Please share a day in the life of a Wolfspeed intern, Day-to-day varies a lot based on specific department and manager, but my day consistently has lots of meetings, multiple visits to the floor for shadowing experience, and several projects that take up ~50% of my time. How does your internship relate to what you've learned in the classroom? Because this is a semiconductor manufacturing plant, which is very different from paper, you just have to know how to learn. Most everything is new, but there are definitely still constants that are consistent through all of engineering, like lean six sigma and statistics. Do you think the PSE program prepared you for this internship? The PSE program helped me prepare for this internship by providing me with previous work experience in paper mills. Nothing beats learning on the job and as different as semiconductors are from toilet paper, there are several valuable things to be learned about working in a professional environment with other engineers. How is this uniquely different than past internships? My previous two internships were in tissue mills. They are nothing at all like Wolfspeed’s semiconductor manufacturing process, which is exactly why I chose this internship. A lot of us will be graduating with the chemical engineering dual degree, why not use it some? Hopefully working in a completely different industry will broaden my experience and show future employers that I'm comfortable working in foreign environments. What do you do on weekends and after work? Wolfspeed is great because I didn't have to move from NC State. I've been enjoying beach music and new Raleigh restaurants all summer with friends. Thanks for sharing your unique summer internship with us, Kaia. PSE is so proud of you for branching out and digging in! I never thought I would share this post, but a sentence from one of the exhibitors still rings in my ear. Like most of the third- and final-year students, I had the privilege of attending the #UTMPremiumCareerFair, hoping to expand my network and understand the current engineering market. After weaving through the crowded aisles, I found a quiet spot at the back of the hall to catch my breath. As I sat there, sipping water, a short-haired lady in a black polo tee with a name card around her neck took a seat beside me. My first instinct was to say, "Hi, how are you? Are you one of the exhibitors here?" I usually don't start conversations with strangers, but this turned out to be one of the most memorable and valuable interactions of my life. She recounted her journey from academia at UTM to 9 years in the working realm and her adventures abroad as an engineer, and I discovered she had walked the same academic path as me, which is a pure mechanical engineering student. Surprisingly, our conversation flowed so naturally; it was as if we were two old friends catching up after years of graduating from high school. As throngs and throngs of people flowed past us, our conversation on personal growth was so deep that it felt like the universe itself paused to listen to us furtively. This, at least to me, is the true power of meaningful communication. "Jack, after talking to you, I think there is something special about you. I hope you can find your true passion and chase it and you are still young so don't miss the chance ." Thank you, Miss Hidayah Sofia Hidzir , I will hold on to these words so closely with me. To anyone reading this, this is a sign to start a conversation with a simple "hi," even to a stranger sitting beside you. You never know what magic that exchange might bring. With warm regards, Jack #CareerFair #MechanicalEngineering #EngineeringStudents #InternshipSearch #CareerDevelopment #EngineeringCareers #StudentLife #ProfessionalNetworking #FutureEngineer #EngineeringOpportunities #CareerGoals #JobHunt #STEMCareers #CollegeLife #EngineeringInternship #inspiring
