As factories become more and more #autonomous, the risk of incidents between machines, workers, and #robots is increasing. 🤖⚠ This poses a serious safety challenge for humans that our teams are working hard to address. Most autonomous mobile robots can adapt their routes based on their surroundings. However, not all can safely adjust their speed. Therefore, specialized safety encoders are often needed, which can be complex and may not fit the mobile robot. 💡 With a new software-based approach we bridge the gap between IT and OT systems. It ensures compatibility with all mobile robots and their components, reducing energy use, eliminating the need for extra hardware, and coming with safety certification - meaning greater control and lower costs. ✅ By seamlessly integrating IT and OT, we're developing solutions that keep workers protected and production running smoothly in the autonomous factory of the future. #AutonomousFactory #AMR #ITOTIntegration

One of the most satisfying aspects of my job at InOrbit.AI is building a far-reaching community and growing a global partner ecosystem. This collaboration with SICK Sensor Intelligence is a perfect example of that. Combining our superpowers allowed us to solve a really challenging problem for end users in #logistics, #manufacturing and other industries: as customers increasingly adopt mobile robots (including #AGVs and #AMRs) to automate certain tasks, they must coexist with manual equipment such as forklifts and carts. In many of these environments, such as a modern #warehouse, people work alongside their robot companions. However, they sometimes get in each other's ways, resulting in confusion, inefficiency and potential safety issues. Imagine pushing a cart up to a door, then opening it only to find a hulking robot trying to get through it. It's kinda hard to say "after you" to a robot -- and most won't even acknowledge your presence, even if they're nice enough not to bump into you. SICK Tag-Loc solves the problem of tracking everything from push carts to people and InOrbit takes care of #trafficmanagement, extending it to hybrid autonomous/manual vehicle fleets. I got a chance to introduce this last week to the audience at the SICK Mobile Platforms Summit and then to share a live demo with the core team at SICK HQ in Germany 🇩🇪 earlier this week. If you'd like to learn more, tune into our orchestration webinar next week https://lnkd.in/gCpyUY-F

A large distribution center in Texas now has the "world's first" fully autonomous truck yard. The autonomous technology company ISEE launched in 2017 with AI research from MIT. The 1.7 million square foot distribution center has 750 trailer staging bays and belongs to an unnamed Fortune 100 company. The autonomous yard truck fleet reportedly operates "across all shifts, day and night, rain or shine." According to the press release, key benefits include new capacity, seamless integration, workforce development, and enhanced safety: "The US National Safety Council reports that transportation and warehousing have the highest rate of worker injury of all occupations, and being struck by equipment is one of the most common causes. By eliminating the potential for human error, the autonomous truck yard can dramatically reduce accidents and collisions. ISEE uses cutting-edge sensor technologies and advanced algorithms to ensure that every movement is executed with precision and caution." https://lnkd.in/gEKJh-dU #autonomousdriving #autonomoustrucks #supplychaintrends #truckingindustry #truckingnews #transportationtechnology #supplychaintechnology #logisticstechnology #warehousing #distributioncenter #selfdrivingvehicles #drivershortage #cdldrivers #truckingnews #truckingcompanies #transportationindustry https://lnkd.in/gvh6XPW2

A little over 2 years ago, I was part of a brilliant team deploying a driverless robotaxi on open private roads without a driver behind the wheel, redefining urban mobility. From nimble taxis at Zoox to massive freight trucks at Torc Robotics, the transformative power of engineering excellence and commitment to safety never fails to deliver. Different vehicles, different missions, but watching them from the sidelines, that sense of marvel never fades :) It is a surreal feeling. The vehicle starts so smoothly, so naturally, that your mind expects to see a driver. But there isn't one. The steering wheel turns with precise, deliberate movements. It is easy to forget the staggering complexity happening behind the scenes. The thousands of hours of simulation, the countless test runs, the meticulous safety protocols; all culminate in this singular moment - A vehicle thinking, deciding, and moving completely on its own. It's more than just technology working; it's witnessing the future arrive in real time. Super proud to be part of this defining moment in Autonomous vehicle history.
Our autonomous trucks just passed a driverless validation test, marking a huge step toward scalable, road-ready productization. This milestone reflects years of rigorous safety engineering and AI integration – now primed to redefine freight with reliability and efficiency at its core. Our CEO, Peter Vaughan Schmidt, stated it best, "We’re unlocking the future of freight – safe, scalable, and built for real-world impact.” From vision to velocity, check out how Torc Robotics is setting new standards in autonomous freight: https://bit.ly/4hryzee #TorcDriven #FutureOfFreight #AutonomousTrucking #TheNextStep

Will humanoid robots obsolete the need for many autonomous machine projects? During lunch with Jaryd Sunstrom (formerly Igor’s head of software), he mentioned how he "could see AI humanoid robots eventually driving cars." On one hand this seems obvious, but this led me to a realization: humanoid robots may leapfrog the need for many autonomous machine projects — like cars, tractors, and construction equipment. There might be little reason to subscribe to numerous specialized services from OEMs (e.g., self-driving subscriptions) or closed network operators (e.g., ride-sharing applications). Instead, someone could make any old tractor anonymous by simply adding a humanoid robot that can also drive your car, prepare your meals, mow your lawn, etc. Your personalized trusted humanoid robot, being versatile and upgradable, would be far less costly than outfitting each device with numerous sensors, networks, AI, and subscriptions. These robots have the unique ability to add their autonomy to any existing human-operated device, no matter how ancient. Effectively, humanoid robots retrofit your existing machines with AI. This has the potential to accelerate autonomy into many everyday functions. Using a human-like form allows these machines to bypass proprietary OEM barriers that lock users into specific ecosystems. Essentially, all human-operated machines’ physical interfaces are already compatible with the human form, and humanoid robots naturally conform to this standard. Although robotics face physical-world supply-chain constraints, limiting the speed of widespread adoption, the value proposition is clear. It mirrors the iPhone’s consolidation of multiple functions into one device, providing exceptional overwhelming value.
