Sue's story is remarkable! This month's blog from The Treatment Trend Co highlights the unique bond between a teacher and her students and the profound impact of a cancer diagnosis on both Sue and her classroom. The resilience, positivity, and strength people show during the most challenging times always leave me in awe, and Sue’s story is a perfect example of this. Read Sue’s story here: (https://lnkd.in/g2DyTHCk)
When we first met Sue at a conference where she was a guest speaker, her vibrant and infectious personality immediately captivated us. Her joyful spirit was unmistakable as she tried on our compassion socks, particularly highlighted by her choice of Christmas reindeer socks, which she proudly wore to the evening gala. The more we spoke with Sue, the more we realized her story needed to be shared. As mothers of young children, we understand the special bond between teachers and students. Sue's dedication to her students while battling her own cancer journey is truly remarkable. 🌟 Discover how Sue's unyielding spirit and love for her students shine through in her battle against cancer. Around this time last year a text from my (40yo) brother popped up on the screen of my car as I was leaving the grocery store on a Saturday morning: I HAVE BOWEL CANCER. The initial shock (which was so substantial I hit the trolley guard rail coming out of the parking lot 🙈 ) wore off and my steadfast optimism settled in. It was No Big Deal, Dan reassured me, it's just a nuisance. He would get it cut out and move on with his life. He wasn't a "Cancer Guy" after all. Spoiler Alert: It was a big deal. And cancer has dominated the landscape of our lives for the last year but the past 5 months in particular. I'm about to fly home to Canada to support Daniel Simmons, his wife Monica and my family (in the middle of a major transaction - thanks to the support of my team at Tundra Resource Analytics as well as my wonderful clients & the teams I am working in who are demonstrating genuine care in covering for me and ensuring I can prioritise my family right now). By coincidence Dan's company Shared Tower, is participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer in Dan's honour while I am in Canada so my Mom and I have joined the team. Will I struggle? Absolutely. But I'm acutely aware of what an actual struggle looks like so it is easy to find the perspective to battle through a 100km bike ride. One of the worst parts of this experience is knowing that this pain is not localised to my family. Statistically there are no families that will be untouched by the horror of cancer in their lifetime. Cancer research funding is so critical and so if you feel so inclined you can contribute to my fundraising efforts at the link below. The Ride to Conquer Cancer is Canada's largest and most impactful cycling fundraising, having raised $280 million since its inception. https://lnkd.in/dh4CdmTs

Expect Miracles Foundation (EMF) rallies the financial services industry and beyond to invest in life-saving cancer research while advancing the financial and emotional health of people impacted by cancer. Unlike many nonprofits, Expect Miracles Foundation's work in the cancer community is two-fold: an investment in life-saving research, and an investment in financial support for those facing financial burden of cancer. The combination provides hope at every stage of the journey. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, 100% of all participant-raised dollars support EMF's portfolio of funds: Discovery Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Innovation Fund at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center SAMFund which provides financial assistance to young adult cancer survivors

Q: Why do researchers wear purple for the Terry Fox Run? ⤵ A: Purple shirts make Terry Fox-funded researchers stand out, serving as a vivid reminder that the Marathon of Hope continues as we strive to realize Terry's dream of ending cancer through research. If you haven't purchased your 2024 Purple Terry Fox Run T-shirt, you can do so at this link. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g9RQu-jp To register your research team for the 2024 Terry Fox Run and join the #TerryFoxRunChallenge, please have one of your team members visit the team sign-up page on the Terry Fox Foundation website and complete the process (https://lnkd.in/ggi_usRe). To help us identify our research teams, include TFRI, MOHCCN or DHDP before your team's name. Then, share your team’s name with potential team members, and ask them to register, join and start fundraising! We hope to see you out there on September 15. 🏃♀️ #MarathonofHope #cancerresearch #researchers #TerryFoxRun

🏀🎗️ Uniting for a Cause: Coaches vs Cancer Game 🎗️🏀 Tomorrow, something remarkable unfolds at Penn State University as the Coaches vs Cancer (CVC) game takes center stage. Proudly standing alongside fellow supporters, PSECU is committed to the fight against cancer and the invaluable work of the American Cancer Society. In sports, as in life, unity and determination pave the path to victory. The fight against cancer embodies these principles, relying on collective efforts to make meaningful strides in research, patient support, and awareness. While the basketball court serves as the arena for tomorrow's game, the real battleground lies in our collective resolve to make a difference. Together with our partners and sponsors, including the American Cancer Society, we contribute to a cause greater than ourselves. Through initiatives like the annual golf tournament, where we proudly serve as a presenting sponsor, we've witnessed the power of community coming together. These events have raised millions of dollars, driving progress in cancer research and patient care. As we come together to support Penn State basketball and the CVC game, let's remember that every gesture of support, no matter how small, contributes to the larger fight against cancer. Our combined efforts exemplify the spirit of teamwork and resilience. Join us in cheering on the teams tomorrow, knowing that each basket scored symbolizes a step forward in the fight against cancer. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those affected by this disease. #CoachesVsCancer #AmericanCancerSociety #Unity #FightCancer #PSECUWorks #CommunitySupport
