Last week, I closed a deal that took 15 business days from the first meeting to receiving the PO in my inbox. Interestingly, I wasn't the first dealer they contacted for a solution. From day one, I knew this would come down to price. The project wasn't flashy—just 100 basic workstations for a straightforward application. I gave them a budget number and quickly engaged to see their reaction. After a week, I followed up, and they told me they had received three quotes and management was reviewing them. I asked whether my quote was the lowest, and suddenly, the lady seemed to develop amnesia... LOL. So, I immediately told her I wanted their business, went back, revised my quote, and sent a "nuke." She called me back and mentioned that she was going to go back to purchasing and request the PO be issued to me instead of the recommended dealer!
As I grow and learn every day, I've realized the importance of not wasting time and energy on pursuing deals that aren't viable. I've discovered that I can sell more effectively without being as frantic as others, simply by focusing on what matters most. Why spend time on deals that won't close? One word: judgment. Look at those deals closely—do they behave, look, and react the same way as deals that close? If not, it's time to let them go. Instead of trying to change the course of unpromising deals, concentrate on the ones that show promise. Remember, in sales, it’s not about being busy with deals that won't close—that won't get you paid. Hyper-focus on the ones that are likely to succeed.
