What defines a fulfilling job? I have always sought out jobs that give me a sense of purpose, and a work environment that encourages maturity, self-empowerment, and recognises the effort and attitude that is needed to be a cohesive team. When your core values are mirrored by the people around you, it is easier to be part of something bigger, to feel you belong. That’s what I have strived to create at Kalaari Capital. This year, our annual Kalaari offsite, #KalaariByTheBeach, brought that philosophy to life against the beautiful backdrop of Sri Lanka. An offsite is not about the beautiful setting, but it is about the time we invest to learn about each other. It builds respect, collaboration, and affection for the people you work with. Getting everyone to push our boundaries and comfort zones with a trek to Little Adam’s Peak. Challenge on the zip line! The long bus rides were filled with laughter, impromptu singing, and even a few daring dance moves! By the end, the team felt both exhilarated and more tightly knit. I was pleasantly surprised by 100% participation in the ‘Beach Glam’ themed party. Letting go of inhibitions to be yourself. We discovered the vibrant personalities of each one and their unique flair. Each person has special talents that may not manifest in the daily work hustle. Quiet conversations and walking by the beach at sunrise, soaking in the serenity, watching the crashing waves, diving into the pool with a colleague, learning more about each other — bonding was in the air. But the real takeaway was the renewed energy we brought back with us. Great teams are built not just on shared goals, but also on shared experiences. If you want to succeed, surround yourself with great people. Agree? I met up with Siva Seenivasan - Fellow CMI yesterday at our office. I invited him to pop over and borak2. He had a chance to meet up with Daniel Chan and we spent a good 2 plus hours catching up about life and work. Each time I chat with Siva, I get inspired, I get new ideas, and also I feel I have so much more to learn 😂 Both Daniel and Siva have super processors on them, so they process information way quicker than me 🫡 Sometimes I need to think through what they discussed on ....I'm like 🤔 ahhh. ok. Anyways, through the conversation already we may have a few work collaboration ideas in the future. A few key takeaway for me from our session was: 🚨 Relate what you do with your personal goals and passion 🚨 The importance of being able to tell your story ie story telling skills 🚨 Knowing how to determine the ideal fee for the work we do ☺️ Yes, it's the Raya week but we are somehow still working 😅 Anyways, it's one more day till Raya (depending on the anak bulan beranak atau tidak).
