However, amidst the sobering statistics, there lies hope in prevention, early detection, and prompt treatment. Societal support and investment in stroke research, rehabilitation, and support services are crucial. By advocating for better access to quality healthcare, rehabilitation services, and ongoing support for stroke survivors, we can collectively work towards reducing the burden of stroke on individuals and society as a whole. Our ECMO initiative began when Helmsley Trustee Walter Panzirer met with Dr. Demetris Yannopoulos, the visionary behind the first #ECPR program in the United States, bringing #ECMO to cardiac arrest patients. Since then, we've expanded our ECMO support to organizations in Montana and Nevada. Why? "It became an equity issue" because of how little access rural communities have to the life-saving treatment, Panzirer recently said to Inside Philanthropy. We believe that your zip code should never determine your health outcome. We believe that ECMO needs to be included in the standard of cardiac care, and has a future role in cardiac arrest response. It is essential to fund its expansion, both beyond the walls of a hospital, as we did with Dr. Yannopoulos and the ECPR program, and to build ECMO capacity at the hospitals where rural patients come to receive care. The Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) hosted its first MG walk in Boston since the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a pleasure to volunteer, organize, and be part of it and meet the amazing people in this community. This walk was a great opportunity to connect with MG patients, caregivers, and advocates. For those who don’t know, Myasthenia Gravis is a rare autoimmune disease where autoantibodies attack different receptors in the skeletal neuromuscular junction. In short, Myasthenia Gravis patients experience rapid fatigue of muscles that affects their everyday lives. We also surpassed our $15,000 fundraising goal. These fundraisers are critical for advancing research and treatments for Myasthenia Gravis. As Kevin O’Connor, a Yale principal investigator focused on Myasthenia Gravis and rare disease research, said: “The work that MGFA does is important not only for patients but also for researchers, as it provides us with the funds needed to understand the disease and better target it for treatment.” #AWorldWithoutMG #MGStrong #Research #PatientAdvocacy 

On Labor Day - a day to celebrate working folks & our careers - this year as we are launching the John G. Hanney Memorial Alzheimer's Association Fundraiser - I can't help but think about how all those working folks, like us, received the life changing news that their loved one, their colleagues, their friends had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. When John Hanney & I got his news we were devastated, scared, in shock - what do we do now - we were lost. And then we learned some painful facts - there is currently no cure but research is getting closer - there is no effective medication - ass't living & memory care facilities cost a fortune & insurance covers nothing -finding help is very challenging & expensive - all while helplessly watching someone close to you loose everything important to them & watching their caregivers suffer - in summary the effects of Alzheimer's can't be described - the disease must be stopped! The only way to stop this awful disease is with a cure that is found through research that is funded by money - tons of money!! Cancer is no longer a death sentence because of successful research - we must get to the same place with Alzheimer's - our world is not ready for our aging population or the horrors of this disease. On May 4th, A3Access Advisors will be joining the Moving Day Walk in San Francisco to show our support for the Parkinson’s Foundation and those patients and caregivers impacted by Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s is very personal to me. Twenty-five years ago, my father passed after a two-decade battle with this horrible disease. It’s severely debilitating with no known cause, cure, or prevention. Impacting nearly one million Americans and 10 million people worldwide, Parkinson’s is second only to Alzheimer’s as the most prevalent neurodegenerative disease. While there is great science focused on treating and hopefully one day curing Parkinson’s, we are not there yet. We must do more to accelerate our efforts to identify treatment alternatives. The Parkinson’s Foundation is committed to making the lives better for those at risk and suffering from Parkinson’s by advancing research, improving access to care, and funding community programs. Their efforts on behalf of Parkinson’s families deserve our support! We really want more people to MOVE Against Thrombosis. At European Association of Hospital Pharmacists’ (EAHP) Congress last week, more than 700 participants visited our booth, got on a bike and did a combined 78 kilometers with that goal reached, we’ll now make a donation of 5000€ to Association Petits Princes. Thanks to everyone who visited us!   This is just one example of how we work to educate on thrombosis, and we know that moving your body regularly and knowing the symptoms will help to protect you from this often-preventable condition.    Do you KNOW the key symptoms of deep vein thrombosis?  Pain – Pain or tenderness that often starts in the calf. For upper extremity blood clots, the pain is usually in the arm or shoulder region.  Swelling – Swelling of the leg, including the ankle or foot can occur in a minority of cases.
