Last week was my first Medtech conference. A few key themes for me: -It was heartwarming to learn that many startups were born from personal experiences, such as a loved one suffering from a medical condition or hardship. The journey from an 'idea' to a 'device' is incredibly inspiring! -I learned about how medtech innovation is helping to address the healthcare system's capacity shortages. Devices that reduce operating room (OR) time, integrate with wearables, employ robots to reach remote areas, utilize AI to predict diseases, and promote in-home care are just some examples. -Software is being developed to streamline workflows and reduce communication gaps between stakeholders, which ultimately helps to address backlogs. -Patient centricity was a recurring theme in many panel discussions. The focus was on the importance of considering not only physicians or hospitals as clients during R&D, but also the patient, who ultimately benefits. As someone passionate about including the patient voice in strategy, this was particularly heartwarming to hear.
