Kicking off our page by going back to the foundation—literally! In 2009, recognizing the pressing need for locally relevant, cost-effective health interventions in Pakistan’s high disease burden, the #AKU leadership embarked on establishing the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU). The vision was ambitious: to create a state-of-the-art facility meeting international standards for clinical research. By 2011, the CTU opened its doors, setting new benchmarks with its #GoodClinicalPractice (GCP) standards and comprehensive research services. Over the past 13 years, CTU has supported approximately over a 100 trials, from groundbreaking studies to capacity-building programs for research professionals. The takeaway? A robust clinical trial infrastructure isn’t just a facility—it’s an ecosystem of innovation, collaboration, and education. For Pakistan, it has meant bridging global standards with local health priorities to create lasting impact. 💬 As we reflect on this journey, we’d love to hear from you: What challenges and opportunities do you see in advancing clinical research in emerging health landscape?" #aku #research #clinicaltrials #GCPCompliance #HealthImpact

The CIOMS December 2024 Newsletter is now available at: https://lnkd.in/eec6U98d The publication of the revised Declaration of Helsinki (DoH) by the World Medical Association was a major even. CIOMS contributed to the revision process. The principles stated in the updated DoH are now closer than ever to those described in the 2016 CIOMS International Ethical Guidelines for Health-related Research Involving Humans. In the last quarter of 2024 CIOMS updated its glossary of ICH terms and definitions, held a webinar on real-world data and real-world evidence in regulatory decision making (to be repeated in January), organized three Working Group meetings, and participated in many international events. Interesting workshop at the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) conference about how to include payment models in VBHC implementation, led by Fares A. Saade (CAPADEV LLP). We all agreed that we need payments models, but must consider both intrinsic and extrinsic incentives (e.g. accreditation system) and not only for those conditions with high economic burden but also for those where outcome variation is a problem. Importance of PROMs as early signs, even in agreements based on CROMs.

🏁 Today, the European Parliament’s 10th Legislative term was commenced with the inaugural Plenary session in Strasbourg and Roberta Metsola's re-election as President of the European Parliament. 🇪🇺As a key co-decisionmaker, the European Parliament can play a crucial role in tackling the issues that prevent or delay access to advanced therapies for patients across the EU. Our MEP Interest Group was established in the previous mandate to support the Parliament’s role on ATMPs, raise awareness around this new generation of therapies and facilitate dialogue on EU action for future-proof healthcare systems. 💊Going into the new mandate, we wish the best to the President of the European Parliament and the incoming MEPs, and we hope that healthcare, and particularly access to innovative therapies like ATMPs, will remain a political priority. TRANSFORM will continue its work towards a more competitive, resilient EU that provides better healthcare to its citizens. 🧬 Read our MEP Interest Group Charter for Transformative Therapies here: https://lnkd.in/e5wPH6wK #MEPsforATMPs #EuropeanParliament #TRANSFORM #ATMP #rarediseases Nicolás González Casares Billy Kelleher MEP Susana Solís Pérez Tomislav Sokol Tilly Metz ALESSANDRA MORETTI
