Here’s something to digest: As we age, our bodies naturally produce less stomach acid. This decrease can lead to more gut infections and reduced absorption of crucial nutrients like B12, a nutrient vital for producing stomach acid itself. While many adults over 50 with GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) are quick to reach for antacids like Nexium, Prilosec, and Prevacid; it’s estimated that 90% actually suffer from low stomach acid, not high. This is a classic case of treating the symptoms without addressing the root cause. That’s why I run stool tests for my clients, taking a closer look at gut health to gradually restore it from the ground up.

🎗️ This Friday, November 1st, is FCS Awareness Day: Take the 10-Gram Fat Challenge to Show Your Support! On FCS Awareness Day, we recognize those affected by Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome (FCS) — a rare genetic condition that prevents the body from breaking down fats, leading to serious health challenges. 🧈 Join the 10-Gram Fat Challenge on November 1st: Limit your fat intake to just 10 grams for the day to experience the unique dietary restrictions faced by FCS patients. Here’s what 10 grams of fat looks like: A pat of butter A few almonds A small piece of cheese A thin slice of avocado A teaspoon of olive oil Why this challenge? For people living with FCS, managing even tiny amounts of dietary fat is critical for health and comfort. This challenge builds awareness and empathy for the vigilance FCS patients must maintain each day. barham zainalddin sahib internist and endocrinologist Director of Halabja lipid clinic member of Iraqi lipid clinic network ILCN #FCSAwareness #FCS10gFatChallenge #Emotionalwellbeing #LivingwithFCS

Anyone who knows me personally, knows how big a supporter I am of exercise- moving your body is extremely important as we age. Moving your body could mean different things for different people- gym, dancing, yoga, running, hiking, walking, swimming, racquet sports etc. It's essential to incorporate at least some form, whatever works for one, in their daily lifestyle. It has different benefits for different people as well- feeling good about themselves, looking younger, happy hormones released, form of meditation, stress buster... I personally run and do strength training as a part of my routine, and I look at running as my meditation/ problem solving time depending upon the state of mind. Strength training more so to avoid running injuries and to feel fit and the rush of happy hormones. Exercise for me is fuel for the mind as food is for the body. There is always a valid excuse of not having time, but even 15-20 mins everyday can help reduce reliance on medicines and dieting. Longevity is one thing, but more critical is the quality of life one wants to have in old age.
People are chasing longevity with ice baths and supplements. But the benefits of exercise have years of science behind them.
