During an interview with Asharq Business اقتصاد الشرق, Shehzad Jamal, Partner - Strategy & Consultancy, MEA, discussed key insights from our Mental Health Report. He highlighted that KSA has about 18.64 psychiatric beds per 100,000 population, roughly half of what's available in some developed countries. To improve the sector, he emphasised the need for investment in human capital (doctors and allied health professionals), digital solutions (such as virtual consultations), and increased insurance coverage. Jamal also noted that the young population, exposed to rapid societal changes and social media, faces a higher risk of mental health conditions. Additionally, the population over 60 is expected to triple, increasing susceptibility to conditions like Alzheimer's and dementia. He stressed the link between non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health, noting that people with diabetes are 2 to 3 times more likely to have mental health issues.
