Two things happened last week: 1️⃣ a series of events that we have been waiting for to give a speech about EU funds 2️⃣ I almost lost my voice which made the point 1️⃣ difficult but still not impossible 😉 On Wednesday – we were invited by our medtech partner Medical Innovation Institute to a first from a series of online webinars addressed to medical startups at the product building stage. The subject of the webinar was: Applying and effectively spending funds in Health-Tech startups and along with Jakub Chwiećko we were honoured to guide the participants through the programmes: 🩺Starting Platforms with dedicated paths for medtechs closing early January 2025 and March 2025 🩺Startup Booster Poland with few paths including the technology recipients interested in medtech solutions with deadlines in December 2024 and then in Ist quarter 2025 🩺Smart track and regional R&D programmes starting January 2025 with plenty of opportunities to finance the expenditures such as research and equipment needed to conduct a medtech project. 📼 The recording of the webinar coming 🔜 #medtech #R&D #StartingPlatforms #BoosterPoland #MII #EUfunds

🌿 Bringing Science to Life: Key learnings from our workshop “Building a Startup in Healthcare.”🌿 Last month, our venture developers Annameta Gericke and Marta Scali facilitated the workshop "Building a Startup in Healthcare" hosted at the Salento Biomedical District in Lecce. This workshop brought together researchers, entrepreneurs, and professionals from across the health sector, all united by a common goal: to transform innovative healthtech inventions into real-world solutions. As part of our mission at NLC to bring more science to life, we are happy to share a few insights from the gathering: 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 “𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧” We start by identifying whether the technology addresses a significant, verified unmet medical need. Is there a recognised clinical problem that this technology aims to solve? Often the patient will recognise the problem? What is the potential impact on patient outcomes? These questions help us assess the relevance and urgency of the innovation. 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 Our due diligence is comprehensive, ensuring each innovation is poised to meet the market's demands. We scrutinize market size, assess regulatory pathways, and evaluate the robustness of intellectual property rights. Understanding the economic benefits for stakeholders, including hospitals, insurers, and patients, is important. 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐬 Insights from clinical and commercial experts, along with engagement at national and international conferences, play a crucial role. These interactions provide a broader perspective on current standards, competitors, and the overall acceptance of the technology among key opinion leaders and potential users. 🔍 𝘐𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵? Do you have a healthtech innovation that could change lives? We are searching for the next big idea. Let's take it from concept to market together. For those curious to learn more about some of the upcoming workshops hosted by Italian institutions. Feel free to reach out to Marta and Annameta for more information. #NLC #knowledgesharing #healthtech #innovation #invention

EIT HEALTH | Venture Building 🧬 Technology in health is a mixed bag. While pharmaceutical R&D requires managing high costs and risk of failure in any clinical phase (but also promising the occasional rewards), what about Deep-Tech in biotech, medtech, healthtech, or imaging — what makes entrepreneurship and business creation along the innovation chain challenging and how can an European network like EIT Health address gaps of the innovation chain? 🚀 In order to support the targeted exploitation of IP from universities + RTOs toward start-up incorporation, at EIT Health InnoStars, Poland, members of EIT Health, partners & stakeholders scrutinize the ingredients of what a “Venture Builder” (VB) fitting purposefully between tech-transfer and incubation takes to launch off, increase competitiveness and deliver better health. 🎯 It’s not an easy task for health is inherently complex, a regulated market, needs talent and entrepreneurship building, the right incentive measures, and different investment and financing strategies to manage between technology push and pull as well as the relationship between technology developers, healthcare providers and payers plus customers/patients. If successful, there could be new VB projects closing a gap kicking off next year — fingers crossed 🤞 #eithealth #warsaw
