HEALTH TIP: Limit Sugary Drinks Sugar-sweetened beverages increase risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes, even in people who are not carrying excess body fat. They are also uniquely harmful for children, as they can contribute to obesity and conditions that usually do not develop until adulthood, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Healthier alternatives include water or unsweetened tea. #healthtip #healthyliving #limitsugar #healthydrinks #drinkwater

14 November is World Diabetes Day! 🟡 Type 1 diabetes is not preventable. The exact cause of type 1 diabetes is also unknown. In this condition, the pancreas makes little or no insulin*. 🟠 Type 2 diabetes is often preventable through a healthy diet, regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy body weight & avoiding tobacco use. In this condition, there are primarily two problems. The pancreas does not produce enough insulin and cells respond poorly to insulin and take in less sugar. both types cause longer term complications and affects many major organs, including the heart, blood vessels, nerves, eyes and kidneys. Also, factors that increase the risk of diabetes are risk factors for other serious diseases. Diabetes can be different for everyone - every lived experience matters. *Insulin is a hormone the body uses to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy. #diabetes #worlddiabetesday
