The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a report revealing a concerning trend of children ingesting melatonin without supervision, leading to a significant increase in emergency room visits. Melatonin, a hormone produced by the brain in response to darkness, is commonly used by adults to aid sleep. However, the report highlights a 420% rise in children consuming melatonin over the past decade, resulting in calls to poison centers and emergency visits. This underscores the importance of safely storing medications and supplements out of reach of children and educating caregivers about the potential risks associated with unsupervised ingestion. #Melatonin #ChildSafety #EmergencyVisits #CDC #SleepAid

Back in May I wrote about how I've chosen the threshold of 6 hospitalizations per lakh (100,000) residents per day to decide when I'm in "outbreak mode" (no in-person karaoke, eating outdoors whenever possible, working from home more often, wearing a mask in more places). But how do I figure out when to go into Outbreak Mode? Hospitalization rates are a lagging indicator, so they might not be finalized until it's too late. So I looked at case counts. It turns out that case counts reached 60 per lakh per day anywhere from 2-7 weeks before the hospitalization rates reached 6 per lakh per day. So that's what I'm going to use to decide when to start taking more precautions! I am not an expert, but the experts won't give us guidance, so here I am. https://lnkd.in/e8HbFD_f #COVID #COVID19

Yes. A respiratory infection is a respiratory infection is a respiratory infection. We must restart discussions about indoor air quality – ventilation, filtration, germicidal UV – because COVID, influenza, and RSV remain problematic in shared indoor spaces.
