Understanding the Well-being Crisis in the NHS The NHS workforce has been grappling with a variety of challenges that have deeply affected morale: • Staff Shortages: Chronic understaffing in key areas such as nursing, midwifery, and general practice means that existing staff are overstretched, leading to increased stress, exhaustion, and burnout. NHS staff often find themselves working long hours with little recovery time. • Increasing Patient Demand: With an ageing population and growing health needs, NHS workers face increasing patient volumes, making it harder to provide high-quality care while managing administrative and operational duties. • Emotional Toll of Care: NHS staff are often the first point of contact during medical emergencies, end-of-life care, and complex health issues. The emotional toll of consistently handling such high-stress situations can lead to compassion fatigue and mental health challenges. • Impact of COVID-19: The pandemic has placed unprecedented pressure on healthcare workers, with many experiencing post-traumatic stress, anxiety, and depression from the immense physical and emotional strain. If you would like to learn more about workforce morale and well-being in the NHS, look for daily posts this week. #HealthcareLeadership #HealthcareCoach #LeadershipDevelopment

Our 2030 Strategic Plan is different. We do not shift our direction to the changing winds or something new - instead we’re doubling down on what we know is needed, makes a difference to improve care and respond to today’s challenges. We are building on our success at Seed Global Health. We will continue focusing on education, practice, and policy to develop the skilled doctors, nurses, and midwives that we need and demonstrate how it meets the articulated challenges of #ClimateChange #PandemicPreparedness #UHC #PrimaryHealthCare to save lives. This is an organisation wide plan that is country driven by our incredibly talented Country Directors Anda Nindi, Irene Atuhairwe, Mustapha Sonnie, and Bassim Birkland and in service to the priorities of our partners. It proudly centers health workers, because health workers save lives. We need streamlined workflows and handovers, to make every touchpoint with the patient as efficient and effective as possible If Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP is determined to fix the NHS then we need investment in the workforce for nurse & midwifery leaders to embrace and lead on new models of nursing that embrace technology. To do this isn't through taking a solutions first approach, we need programmes that are connected to what we really want to do - make people better, sort out prevention. Or: do it efficiently, do it well. https://lnkd.in/eiSdcRvR Highland Marketing

💔Reasons why people leave health-care include 📉lack of support 📉not feeling valued 📉lack of development Most people I coach work in health-care. This week alone, I supported two clients via coaching sessions with preparing for career related topics. What I noticed was an immense appreciation for 💜Space and time to explore and reflect out loud 💜Attentive and active listening, without judgement or expectation 💜Compassion ✨ They both left feeling supported and most importantly prepared and resourceful with what was next for them. 📉 It’s a sad fact the health-care system has become too busy to support those that work in it. Whilst the system is busy being busy, there are many people out there looking for support, specifically related to growth. 💡If this is you and you're feeling a bit stuck with where to go for support please do consider working with a coach. You might start with asking what you have available in your organisations. 💜Coaching may not be the answer to everyone's needs for support but it's a good start and resource for many. #coaching #compassion #careerdevelopment #ThursdayThinking Hi 👋 I’m Vardeep, 💜I’m passionate about making space for compassion 💜I coach and facilitate within health-care (& other public sector), using a compassion focus 💜I understand how hard it is working in health-care and I know what a difference it makes when we feel valued and supported 📧 to talk more, email thecoachingcorner3@gmail.com 📚 References 2023 Nursing & Midwifery Council Register, Leavers Survey Leary et al (2024) Why are healthcare professionals leaving NHS roles? Healthcare professionals are spending over 13 hours each week on admin tasks, and - despite advances in digitisation - clinicians are wasting over an hour a day just searching for information. The inefficiencies are clear. As Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham OM KBE PC FRS recent report highlighted, NHS productivity remains low despite rising staff numbers. Instead of focusing on delivering better patient outcomes, clinicians are bogged down by process inefficiencies. One of the most avoidable issues is the time spent hunting for the latest SOPs and guidelines. Thousands of NHS staff are already using a digital tool - MyStaff app - that drastically reduces the time it takes to access such essential information; from 7.5 minutes to 25 seconds at one trust. Meanwhile, document compliance rates are rising - from 60% to 97% - helping to satisfy the drive for high standards of corporate governance. The MyStaff app is one of many digital health innovations enhancing productivity across the NHS. We’re thrilled to be shortlisted for the Best Use of Workplace Technology award at the Nursing Times Workforce Awards, alongside an inspiring group of innovators. We wish all finalists the best of luck, as we continue our collective mission to use technology to tackle the NHS productivity challenge. https://lnkd.in/eCCpMU4N #NHSProductivity #CorporateGovernance #ClinicalGovernance #DarziReview Good luck to: NHS England Nursing, Midwifery & AHP Workforce Team, North East and Yorkshire, NHS England NHS Scotland & The HCSSA The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust Suffolk and North East Essex Training Hub Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust Workforce Development Academy at Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board

Listening Tips To Enhance Your Relationship With Your Aging Loved One You may remember your mother saying, “Listen to me when I’m talking to you.” Listening is a skill that requires more than simply hearing. For medical providers and those who care for seniors, listening is vital to the health of the individuals entrusting them with their care. However, listening is more than just hearing; it is also about following nonverbal cues to ensure an aging loved one feels recognized and understood. The power of this is that it supports a more meaningful connection, empathy, and a more nurturing setting. When a senior feels they’ve been heard and understood, trust is built, and it can lead to a better care relationship. Tips To Ensure You Are Truly Listening Psychology Today states that hearing and listening are two different things. Hearing is a physical act that uses only one sense and is passive. Listening, however, is a voluntary and active process requiring multiple senses. If you choose to listen, you are actively engaging with what you are hearing. Here are some tips to actively listen to your older loved one so they feel you are paying attention to what they are saying.
